Responsibilities

As a Release Manager, you are responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of software releases. This role is critical in ensuring that new software versions, features, or updates are delivered smoothly, on time, and with minimal disruption to the end-users. You will closely work with all stakeholders in planning at every stage of release and testing in all environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Release Planning & Coordination:

  • Collaborate with development, QA, and operations teams to plan, schedule, and coordinate releases.

  • Define and manage the release calendar, balancing requirements from different teams and projects.

  • Create detailed release plans, including scope, resources, timelines, and risks.

  • Execution & Delivery:

  • Oversee the deployment of software into various environments (development, QA, production).

  • Coordinate release activities such as code merges, builds, and deployments.

  • Manage the packaging, deployment, and verification of software updates or new releases.

  • Ensure releases are properly tested and verified for quality assurance before deployment.

  • Release Monitoring & Reporting:

  • Monitor the progress of releases, addressing any issues or blockers.

  • Provide regular status updates and reporting to stakeholders.

  • Track key release metrics (e.g., success rates, rollback rates, deployment times).

  • Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with software releases.

  • Implement contingency plans for release failures or delays.

  • Post-Release Support:

  • Monitor post-release environments to identify any issues.

  • Coordinate with support and development teams to address any post-release defects.

  • Conduct post-release reviews and lessons-learned sessions to continuously improve the process.

  • Continuous Improvement:

  • Promote the adoption of release automation tools and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.

  • Review and improve release processes and documentation to enhance efficiency and reliability.

  • Stakeholder Communication:

  • Act as the main point of contact for release-related matters.

  • Liaise with product managers, developers, testers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and coordination.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Bachelor's degree required.

Work Experience:

  • 3 years of experience required.

  • 5 years of experience preferred.

  • 1 year of leadership or management experience preferred.

Additional Preferences

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in IT Release Management

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a leadership or team lead role

  • Experience with build tools (e.g. Jenkins, Maven)

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Excellent problem solving and decision making skills

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes

  • Proficiency in managing releases across multiple environments (e.g. test, staging, production)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to work across teams and manage stakeholders
