Job Description Summary

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.

Responsible for departmental operations planning/execution or is focused on execution of professional activities within a technical discipline. Functions with some autonomy but guided by established policies or review of end results.

The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Controls Engineer to join our team at GE Vernova Grid Solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in control systems engineering, with a focus on power transmission systems. The Lead Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing advanced control systems for our Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), ensuring optimal performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of control systems for FACTS devices, including power generation, transmission, and distribution.

  • Develop control algorithms and software for real-time control and monitoring of power systems.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers, to ensure the successful integration of control systems.

  • Conduct system modeling, simulation, and analysis to optimize control strategies and improve system performance.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support their professional development.

  • Participate in the testing and validation of control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to control systems.

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in control systems engineering and power systems technology.

  • Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.

  • Support business development activities by providing technical expertise and contributing to proposal development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, control systems engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in control systems engineering, with a focus on power transmission systems.

  • Strong knowledge of control theory, power system dynamics, and real-time control systems.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, MATLAB, Simulink, and PLC programming.

  • Experience with SCADA systems, DCS, and other industrial control systems.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically and strategically.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing engineering projects.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
