The GE Vernova Consulting Services (GEVCS) organization offers global clients a wide range of solutions across a spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. Within GEVCS, our Power Economics and Software Practice provides detailed engineering and economic analyses focused on the financial and physical operation of electric power systems. This includes generation, transmission, and distribution planning; power system optimization; asset valuation and market fundamental forecasting; energy policy implications; and power system resource adequacy and reliability.

For the role of "Senior Consultant/Engineer - Transmission Planning", GEVCS is looking for a candidate who is well-versed in the intricacies of transmission planning and development. An ideal candidate is someone who can utilize power system modeling software (PSLF, PSSE, TARA, etc.) to perform a variety of analyses critical to the success of our team's project work. Additionally, our team seeks a candidate familiar with the various policies and rules affecting grid planning and development, and the interconnection queue at the ISO/planning region level, who can help clarify and communicate the effects that these developments have on a given region/marketplace.

In this role, the Senior Consultant/Engineer will be given the opportunity to serve as both a project/scope leader as well as an individual contributor to consulting and advisory services for customers across the electric power industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Utilize power system (transmission and distribution) modeling software such as PSLF, PSSE, or TARA, to perform power flow analysis, line loss computation, renewable integration analyses, interconnection capacity scenario analysis, fatal flaw analysis (N-1 analysis), and deliverability analysis

• Develop, maintain, and apply detailed power system simulation models for the energy industry for customer planning and investment objectives, evaluating impacts of structural changes in electricity markets

• Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers via detailed summary reports and presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, customer value propositions, etc.

• Proactively assist in seeking out new opportunities and study work by contributing to Requests for Proposals (RFP) from grid operators, utilities, developers, and other industry participants

• Support GE businesses and customers in the areas of wind and solar integration, smart grid optimization, distributed energy resources, energy storage, asset utilization, new product initiatives, and challenges to the utility business model

• Monitor power markets for rule changes that may affect generation, transmission, and distribution asset values and advise key stakeholders on expected impacts of those rules

• Knowledge of transmission planning and development, interconnection queue rules and regulations

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Economics, or Computer Science, or related field.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in electric power systems engineering, energy market design and operations, generation/transmission planning or operations, wholesale power trading, and/or energy market consulting

• Demonstrated competency in power flow modeling software (PSLF, PSSE, TARA, or comparable)

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated professional experience in several of the following areas:

• Load flow, dynamic, short circuit and protection modeling and analyses

• Proficiency with performing power system planning and interconnection assessment for feasibility, system impact and facility studies, NERC TPL-001, short- and long-term stability and operational assessments, short circuit analyses

• Understanding of grid systems interactions between IBR and conventional power plants, FACTS and HVDC equipment and load/variable speed drive controls

• Development and/or application of technical and regulatory codes and standards

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)

• Technical writing skills for proposals and study reports

• Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to present findings of analytical studies to a wide range of industry stakeholders

• MBA or Master’s/PhD degree in Engineering, Economics or Computer Science, or related field.

• Industry reputation, published articles and/or presentations in industry forums (IEEE, ESIG, IEC, CIGRE, etc.)

• Participation in industry standards working groups or other industry stature such as EIT, PE License or pending/awarded patents.

• Experience with power system reliability models (GE MARS or equivalent Monte-Carlo simulation tool) and/or production cost models (GE MAPS, PLEXOS, GridView, PROMOD, etc.)

• Programming experience (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
