WSP USA Laboratory Supervisor in Regina, Saskatchewan
The Opportunity:
WSP has an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Supervisor in our Regina office. The Laboratory Supervisor will play a key role in the continued growth of the Ground Engineering team and will lead the day to day operations of the geotechnical laboratory, working closely with the clients, contractors and the WSP team to ensure the successful delivery of projects. You will be highly involved in supporting the growth of our Geotechnical and Field and Lab Services groups and providing senior level guidance and direction in a variety of technical areas such as geotechnical materials testing (asphalt, concrete, aggregates and soils), construction supervision and Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) inspection and testing.

What you can expect to do here:
Coordinate day to day operation of the Regina geotechnical laboratory and continue the ongoing development of the laboratory;
Coordinate and provide support and technical mentorship to junior staff;
Schedule lab technicians as required by projects to complete lab and field testing programs in timely manner;
Review and report geotechnical test results and field reporting;
Be familiar with ASTM, AASHTO and CSA geotechnical testing procedures;
Must be mathematically proficient with regards to the necessary skills required for laboratory and field testing applications;
Manage and/or review projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including allocation of budgets, personnel and resources, billing and client relationships;
Coordinate with project management teams and other discipline leads to manage project deliverables, ensuring schedule and budget are achieved;
Maintain and review requirements for CCIL certifications (Concrete, Asphalt and Aggregates);
Maintain and review laboratory calibration records;
Lead and actively pursue new business and project opportunities;
Maintain and managing relationships with internal and external clients and ensuring that their needs are understood and met, providing your guidance and expertise;
Collaborate with our many counterparts in all our different disciplines at WSP and provide expertise and client deliverables on projects;
Work with other team members to effectively complete assigned tasks;
Follow all company policies and standard operating procedures;
Maintain and adhere to a safe working environment in compliance with the WSP Health and Safety Policy;
Provide excellent customer service and a commitment to technical excellence;
Participate in the recruitment process for new staff when required;
Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work; and
Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma or equivalent education or experience;
Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience, demonstrated leadership and management of projects related to geotechnical materials testing;
Demonstrated ability developing excellent customer relationships, positive staff working environments and developing new business opportunities;
Strong leadership skills with a genuine desire to mentor and develop individuals and teams;
Project Management skills are necessary, with an ability to track timelines, meet budgets and schedules;
You enjoy a combination of laboratory and fieldwork;
You are skilled in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel;
You’ve got excellent written/oral communication skills and attention to detail;

You have the ability to physically lift up to 25 kg repeatedly, as required, on a daily basis;
You are physically able to work in a noisy, dusty environment (indoors and outdoors) using all applicable Personal Protective Equipment as required;
CCIL Certifications would be an asset.
Training in Standard First Aid, WHMIS, H2S Alive, and Ground Disturbance considered an asset.
Previous consulting experience is preferred;
Valid Canadian Driver's License and a clean Drivers Abstract.
