Strategic Space Systems Division is seeking a Mechanical Technician 2. This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Redondo Beach, CA .
Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components. Drafts detailed drawings for fabrication. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedure to meet desired specifications.
The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Space Manufacturing & Engineering (SM&E) in the Manufacturing Engineering Operations (MEO) Department.
The candidate will perform a variety of duties assisting manufacturing engineers in the assembly of Space Vehicle mechanical flight components and assemblies. Familiarity with MS office, engineering work orders, drawings, and product specifications is a plus. Prior manufacturing and/or integration and test experience is strongly preferred. This position requires extended shifts, overtime, weekends when needed to meet hardware delivery dates.
Roles and Responsibilities
Handling delicate flight hardware using proper ESD and contamination control best practice.
Performs mechanical assembly using space flight drawings and process documents.
Performs space flight bonding operations using various adhesives for thermal, electrical, and mechanical connections on complex composite and structural assemblies.
Collaborating with all stakeholders for your task.
Provide feedback to manufacturing engineers and designers on producibility enhancements.
Typical Duties include:
Perform assembly tasks using specific process requirements (bonding, drilling, torquing, etc) to support daily assignments.
Utilizes calibrated tools and shelf-life materials to perform assembly operations.
Work in high bays and cleanrooms.
Ability to work off hours and weekends when needed.
Ability to travel, as necessary
Take ownership of hardware and report hardware status daily to floor supervisor or TC.
Ability to use MS Office Suite of products to communicate with engineering and leadership.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician 1: High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience
Mechanical Technician 2: High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
Knowledge and experience with mechanical assembly and operations using at least one of the following: Blueprints, engineering drawings, or written instructions.
Experience using MS office tools and other software.
Demonstrated experience in executing procedures.
Ability to obtain In-Scope SCI clearance access.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in mechanical manufacturing or integration and test.
Experience working on space flight hardware.
Active In-Scope SCI clearance access or ability to obtain one.
Experience working on complex composite flight hardware.
Ability to work second shift
Salary Range: $45,800 - $76,400
Salary Range 2: $54,400 - $90,600
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
