Amazon Technical Program Manager, Propulsion, Kuiper-GNC in Redmond, Washington

Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

The Kuiper Propulsion team seeks a Technical Program Manager to help scale our mission of providing maneuvering capabilities for thousands of satellites. Working closely with Propulsion team leaders and key stakeholders, this role will be instrumental in facilitating system development, testing, deliveries, manufacturing, and flight operations initiatives.

Key job responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Create project plans and incremental milestones as the Propulsion System scales manufacturing, driving effective prioritization with all stakeholders as production rate is increased. Stakeholders include Mechanical Engineering and Design, Propulsion Test, Electrical Engineering, Embedded SW Development, Propulsion subject-matter experts, and Vehicle Integration/Test.

  • Coordinate closely with Propulsion Team leadership to ensure that all deliverables meet a demanding Launch Schedule for Kuiper, while maintaining quality requirements.

  • Exhibit proficiency managing priorities, scope, schedule, resources, quality and risk - as well as developing, tracking, and reporting metrics to the Propulsion Team and Project Kuiper Leadership.

  • Establish best practices for manufacturing at Full-Rate. Manage technical and programmatic efforts contracted with third party vendors and suppliers – ensuring rigorous quality standards from vendors providing critical hardware and analyses necessary to produce the Kuiper Propulsion System.

  • Candidates need to have sufficient knowledge and experience with spacecraft propulsion systems to ask the right technical questions and drive the right technical solutions.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent

  • Experience managing technical programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 5+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • Experience building and evaluating system-level technical design

  • Experience developing and executing/delivering product and technical roadmaps

  • Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management

  • Experience managing the development and production of propulsion systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $197,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
