Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Within Azure Data, the databases team builds and maintains Microsoft's operational Database systems. We store and manage data in a structured way to enable multitude of applications across various industries. We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.

We are looking to hire a Software Engineer II to join our dynamic team at Azure Database for MySQL, one of Microsoft Azure's latest additions to its exceptional lineup of relational database services. As we continue to expand our offering to meet the ever-growing demands of our customers, we are seeking someone who thrives on running online services. As a Software Engineer II, you will help drive increased adoption of the MySQL service by enabling customers to modernize and optimize their MySQL workloads while migrating them to the Azure cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Learn about emerging migration techniques while onboarding within a team of supportive engineers who are vested in helping you succeed.

  • Help our small team run the Azure Database Migration Service end to end, contributing to any and all components, be it the user interface, the control plane, or the data plane. You will take advantage of a wide variety of growth opportunities while learning at a quick pace.

  • Deliver designs and features that will enable the team to engage our customers in new and novel ways, solving the problems that prevent them from running their production MySQL workloads in Azure.

  • Operate migration services running in multiple clouds, working with partners in Microsoft support as well as directly with our customers to monitor systems, products, and services for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.

  • Identify bottlenecks, remove migration blockers, and improve pipeline performance to further improve our best-in-class MySQL migration tooling so it can scale to support the most complex schemas (think 1+ million tables) as well as the largest workloads.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • Professional experience with at least one relational database system.

  • Experience building and shipping production grade software or services.

  • Experience moving and adapting on-premises applications to run in the cloud.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year
