Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

The Turing team is an innovative engineering and research team working on state-of-the-art deep learning models and works on projects across the entire deep learning life-cycle. Within the Turing team, we are a fast-paced, high impact and hardcore experience team, who is responsible for building cutting edge frontend stacks for Microsoft365 Copilot and realize what the great capabilities that cutting-edge machine learning is able to provide. In addition, the team also works on improving experiences across Microsoft’s products and services by working on high value scenarios. 

As a member of the Turing team, you will have a direct impact on the quality of the products which in turn determines the experience of millions of users every day. You will learn many cutting edge technologies in the latest trend of AI and LLM, scalable business layer framework, A/B testing framework, working with teams of distributed systems, data mining, machine learning to solve hard problems. You will have enormous resources of Microsoft at your disposal and close collaborations with great teams and colleagues in world-wide. At the same time you have the right environment and strong support to drive your favorite features to solution. Responsibilities

  • Drive projects from design through implementation, experimentation and finally shipping to our users.

  • Understand scenarios, challenges, and issues in a feature area. Propose design, solutions, mitigations, and be responsible for metric-driven result.

  • Work independently to implement, flight and ship features to different canvases and have impact on key metrics.

  • Create and implement code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Write and learn to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understand when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Applie coding patterns and best practices to write code.

  • Understand all the metrics, able to get insights of what happened from real traffic scorecard, and come up with improvement plan.

  • Build dashboard and online tests to monitor mainstreamed features’ coverage, performance and availability.

  • Collaboration with internal and external partner teams globally.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+years of experience with one or more of the following: large scale Distributed Systems and/or Information Retrieval, AI and Large Language Model engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing AI pipelines and infrastructure.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+years of experience with one or more of the following: large scale Distributed Systems and/or Information Retrieval, AI and LLM engineering with coding experience in C++, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Java.

  • Efficient design, problem solving, and data analysis skills, with demonstrated passion for quality, performance, and engineering excellence.

  • Motivated and able to work independently as well in a collaborative team setting to research innovative solutions to challenging technical/business problems.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
