Microsoft Corporation Software Engineer II in Redmond, Washington

We are looking to hire a Software Engineer II to join our team! Microsoft Azure Edge + Platform (E+P) is a globally distributed team of engineers, architects, program managers, product managers, business program managers, business administrators, user experience researchers and designers who are responsible for the platform for Microsoft and for delivering Microsoft’s edge vision. We are looking for a Software Engineer II to be part of the exciting new journey to redefine and help drive the future of Azure Digital Operations. You will be responsible for delivering multitenant, highly available, resilient cloud and edge services to manage assets and devices easily and securely. You will collaborate with team members and other engineering groups in Microsoft to build services that manage a fleet of industrial assets and devices with the latest security, software, and maintenance updates. Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain highly scalable, resilient, and maintainable cloud services. 

  • Design, deploy and manage services and applications on Kubernetes clusters, ensuring optimalutilization of resources and high availability. 

  • Lead discussions for the architecture of products/solutions and create proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans. Provide reactions, proposed solutions, and inputs to architects. 

  • Lead by example within the team by producing extensible and maintainable code. Apply metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns and best practices. 

  • Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed. Consider diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability when reviewing code, and understand when code is ready to be shared or delivered. 

  • Identify needs for a broad versus selected approach in testing mechanisms and make informed decisions to implement the most effective tests. Drive efforts to add new tests, remove antiquated tests, and aggregate tests to improve the test suite. 

  • Maintain operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related technical discipline AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, or Python 

  • OR equivalent experience. 

  • 2+ years of experience in developing, shipping, and supporting production grade distributed cloud services. 

  • 2+ years of experience building and supporting distributed cloud services with production grade.  

Other Requirements:

  • Cloud Background check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, or Python 

  • OR master’s degree in computer science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, or Python 

  • OR equivalent experience.  

  • Understanding of Azure cloud and Kubernetes services.  

  • Experience building Distributed Systems with reliable guarantees. 

  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems. 

  • Solving problems by always leading with passion and empathy for customers. 

  • Have a desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups, find win/win solutions and celebrate successes. 

  • Enthusiasm, integrity, self-discipline, results-orientation in a fast-paced environment.  

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
