Microsoft Entra ID is at the center of Microsoft’s cloud strategy. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build and operate critical authentication, authorization and directory services that are used by the millions of Azure, Microsoft 365, Xbox and Windows users worldwide. In the mobile-first cloud-first world, sign-in and sign-up is the front door for reliable end user experience to use any of Microsoft cloud services. Entra ID hosts millions of tenants and billions of identities. It serves billions of requests per day in the stacks powering core authentication and programmability. The backend directory store is at the heart of Entra ID architecture. Our team is evolving the directory store platform to address the needs for the next decade. Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops large-scale distributed software services and solutions 

  • Adheres to and drives modern software engineering practices

  • Drives system design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code and design reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions 

  • Develops and applies “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that services and components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable. 

  • Exposes testability and test coverage issues, improves test coverage for services, organizes and implements integration tests, and resolves problem areas 

  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

  • Gains a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborates across teams to create cohesive end-to-end experiences for our users 

  • Defines and focuses on data-driven approaches to identify customer/partner needs

  • Troubleshoots and suggests new approaches to optimize automation, reliability and monitoring for Live Site

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ yearstechnical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience developing high scale, distributed systems on a cloud platform

  • Experience with cloud computing technologies and security.

  • Experience designing and writing scalable and maintainable code for large scale distributed systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Kusto or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Kusto or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Data & test-driven mentality.

  • Customer obsession and focus to drive impact towards customer success.

  • Experience with graph databases and/or information retrieval systems.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
