Microsoft Corporation Senior Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Datacenter Monitoring and Controls Engineering (DMCE) group is responsible for critical environment monitoring and controls application deployments at new datacenters. For existing datacenters, DMCE is responsible for retrofitting and upgrading datacenter critical environment monitoring and controls applications for security compliance, new functionality, and compliance.

The position will be a Senior EPMS Engineering position for MSFT datacenters in the US Region. This position is a multi-disciplinary role which involves in-house development/programming and remote commissioning support of the Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) for new datacenter projects.

The ideal candidate will be an instrumentation and controls engineer with leadership experience in electrical power monitoring systems for Data Centers. A team player able to work in a multi-disciplined engineering team implementing EPMS in Microsoft Data Centers globally and possess the skills to work in a fast-paced multi-project environment. An ideal candidate is knowledgeable in the network topologies and communication protocols associated with EPMS systems and related networks and has a firm understanding of electrical power distribution and monitoring requirements for mission critical applications.

This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.

Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to ​relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.

This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 100%.

Responsibilities

The Senior EPMS Engineer will be responsible for hardware configuration, communication setup and “in-house” testing of EPMS for EPMS projects in MSFT datacenters. Projects include the addition of new hardware within existing/new facilities, containerized datacenters, and other datacenter modifications. Create new or update existing EPMS software configuration, database, graphics, alarming, and notification for the new devices.

During site commissioning, this position will support the DMCE Commissioning team and onsite resources in resolving EPMS related issues found onsite during the commissioning process. Responsibilities will also include providing training in Operations and other personnel as needed and being expected to create Operations & Maintenance documentation to provide to the site during turnover.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), HMI Development, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering

  • OR equivalent experience.

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 8+ years technical experience in Electircal Power Monitoring Systems, HMI Development, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • SCADA implementation and instrumentation field setup.

  • Troubleshooting communication issues and setting up EPMS devices.

  • Mission Critical facility networking.

  • Ability to understand oneline drawings and wiring diagrams.

  • Organizational and communication experience.

  • Expert in EPMS device setup and SCADA implementations.

  • Experience with Modbus, IEC61850 and OPC UA communication protocols.

Service Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
