Microsoft Corporation Principal System Architect in Redmond, Washington

We are looking for a Principal System Architect to focus on the electrical system design for next generation Surface products. A mix of technical breadth and depth will allow you to work cross-functionally with different disciplines (Industrial Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Thermal, Software and Firmware) to develop compelling innovative products. You will design and develop circuits, select key strategic components and that encompasses the entire product.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative device hardware and solutions for the next generation of Windows products

  • Lead Electrical Engineering system architecture for products and silicon platforms

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define future products and silicon platforms

  • Work closely with silicon teams to define system level features for future silicon

  • Optimize power, performance and overall user experience for next generation products

Qualifications

Required Qualification

  • 12+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.

  • 12+ years of industry experience in hardware product development, with a track record of successfully shipping high volume consumer electronic products to market.

  • Experience implementing X86 and/or ARM computer systems and performing SoC feature and performance analysis.

  • Experience designing High Density Interconnect (HDI), Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) for high volume cost optimized applications, board technologies, manufacturing process and capabilities.

  • Experience with schematic and board design using Cadence design tools or equivalent, interpreting Single Integrity (SI)/ Power Integrity(PI) simulation results and making corrective changes.

Preferred Qualification

  • Knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals across analog and digital domains, high speed interfaces, storage, memory, cameras, sensors, display and input systems, PMICs and battery management.

  • Familiar with the latest computer technologies and developments across key subsystems.

  • Experience leading technical teams or projects of scale, collaboration with cross-functional groups and engaging with vendors.

  • 3+ years of System Architecture design.

  • Power Model design/methodology experience.

  • Experience working directly with Silicon vendors.

  • Demonstrated clear communication skills, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms.

Electrical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
