The team is hiring for an experienced, collaborative, inclusive and customer-obsessed Principal Software Engineering Manager to help build the future of an AI-powered Windows that enables our users to achieve more.

As a Principal Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team that is reimagining how AI will revolutionize how over a billion customers engage with Windows. Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of 5-8 engineers responsible for building AI features in Windows.

  • Lead planning and execution, creating robust engineering plans. Make timely decisions to meet security, reliability, quality and shipping goals.

  • Drive clarity, communicate vision, strategy and progress to peers, partners and senior leaders.

  • Develop and drive the technical strategy, aligning goals and decisions with partner teams.

  • Foster the diverse viewpoints and capabilities needed to achieve business objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years people management experience.

  • Experience with AI technologies such as LLMs and AI Agents.

  • Experience collaborating and working with teams across disciplines and functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

  • Previous experience with Windows development.

  • Industry experience with AI technologies

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
