Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Redmond, Washington

Microsoft Security is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager to lead security information and engineering initiatives for the organization, contribute to the strategy and execution of building and operating the services to secure the enterprise. This candidate has a blend of technical, hands-on experience with the ability to build, manage and lead mission critical security and security engineering teams. Responsibilities

  • Drive clarity, create energy, and drive results – you’ll set a vision, rally the team behind it, and deliver on solutions that help securing the platform, products, processes, and services that powers Microsoft.

  • Synthesize market and industry trends from a technical perspective and provides insights to customers, partners, and organization to help enable growth, create new business, and define a vision to get ahead of competition.

  • Drives a measurable impact within a product/solution/service area and holds self, as well as senior and executive leaders accountable for changing the direction of the field as world experts.

  • Guides teams to identify opportunities and gaps in the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cryptography Assurance Program) including comparison of various engineering requirements, driving proof of concepts, and designing quality and performance metrics to AI and Cryptography Scanning solutions

  • Provides technical expertise and strategic input to the Senior Leadership Team at Microsoft on technical or business decisions.

  • Implements strategic insight and guidance when overseeing cross-divisional teams within a product/solution/service area to establish alignment, orchestrate resources, and overcome challenges.

  • Coaches teams to define AI and Cryptography Scanning Assurance success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs], Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as quality and performance) of the feature(s)/feature areas (e.g., product, service) and works with Software Engineering to ensure needed telemetry is developed.

  • Provides knowledge to help teams deeply understand the return on investment.

  • Demonstrate the Microsoft Leader attributes of coach, model, and care with the managers on your team, so they all learn, grow, and succeed.

  • Plan and prioritize work for your team, including collaborating with partner organizations.

  • Create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-performing leaders, managers, and engineers.

  • Contributing to organizations’ initiatives like talent hiring, people skill development, etc.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or team projects.

Other Requirements :

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
