Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineer in Redmond, Washington

Be a part of the Data Services team, building the Data platform, to enable analytics of Microsoft’s diverse range of service lines from Xbox to Volume licensing, Professional Services to Suppliers, and compliance to financial reports. The Data Services team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to build solutions leveraging SAP data access layers and Azure technologies to orchestrate and compliantly reason over petabytes of Microsoft finance data. You will design, develop, test, and operate the platforms with a config driven approach, promoting self-serve onboarding and data transformation support. You will design and implement how we leverage Azure Data Factory to hydrate data from our ERP systems and support financial activities ensuring compliance. You will explore ways to efficiently store data leveraging formats such as parquet, delta tables and ensure compliance. Additionally, you will investigate serving the data at scale with near real-time latencies to Microsoft customers.

You will make a difference by gaining perspective from working across Microsoft’s Product service lines, grow and learn by gaining deep and broad understanding of Azure Services. In addition, you will enable data streaming methodologies for segments of this data where near real time decisioning is important.

Responsibilities

  • Bring your experience to a vibrant team through design reviews, code reviews and mentoring while helping the team build an inclusive culture where everyone can do their best.

  • Architect, build and operate elements of the ERP data services.

  • Independently drive design discussions, data modelling, constructively incorporate feedback, and implement and test your features.

  • Work closely with your peers in rationalizing technology choices, data models, design, and implementations to expose and reason over Finance data.

  • Deeply leverage ERP and Azure Data Services to orchestrate, store and perform data in a reliable, repeatable, and timely pattern.

  • Support hiring, mentorship, and guidance of peer Software Engineers.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with Azure Spark, Scala and/or C# is highly preferred.

  • The candidate is an experienced Software Development Engineer with a proven track record of delivering products.

  • Experience with SAP is a plus, not required.

  • Real-world experience developing large scale online services or data platforms with robust performance, resiliency, telemetry, and security.

  • Experience in design patterns, programming and algorithmic skills.

  • Experience with Azure cloud services.

  • Experience with any Azure big data processing platform.

  • Experience in working across global teams, time zones and stakeholders.

  • Comfortable driving complex server & client architecture across large product teams.

  • Experience with continuous integration and test-driven development.

  • Thinks creatively and critically about product features, architecture, and capabilities.

  • Have innate curiosity and ability to self-start in an ambiguous and rapidly changing startup environment.

  • Collaboration skills with the ability to work in a dynamic/agile environment.

  • Self-motivated and customer focused.

  • Written and verbal communication skills.

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
