We (Bing Multimedia Team) are on a mission to reinvent image and video search in LLM era and make Bing the best place to search, create and consume media content.

Bing Multimedia team at Microsoft AI is responsible for all aspects of image and video related system, data and ML, and experience includes image search, video search, visual search, Bing image creator (generative AI tool), Bing SERP image and video enrichment including image/video answers, entity image/video, algo rich caption image etc. We own E2E stack from index to ranking to experience, and work closely with platform team and other Bing team to deliver delightful and quality media experience to user across Bing, and drive monetization and revenue.

We are an interdisciplinary team of data and applied scientists, engineers (ux and infrastructure) and product managers, learning from each other, and collaborating to create the best models/infra/experience and ultimately best products.

We are looking for a Principal Applied Scientist and technical leader who will work directly under VP of Bing Multimedia, and excited about defining and executing AI technical roadmap to redefine next generation of media search system in the LLM era, and make Bing the best place to search, consumes and create media content. In particular, we are looking for candidates who:

Responsibilities

  • Drive product innovation by leveraging and innovating state of art solutions to reinvent image and video search in LLM era and achieve competitive differentiations and user delight as well as business feasibility.

  • Collaborate effectively across team/org/discipline to define AI technical roadmap and drive alignment and shape Stategic direction on next generation image and video search product.

  • Oversee AI technical roadmap execution and anticipates future needs as well as potential issues, and drives forward-looking, scalable solutions to deliver product impact at a global level.

  • Develop tools, methods, and models at a fundamental level to address long-term industry challenges.

  • Commit to a customer-oriented focus by acknowledging customer needs and perspectives, validating customer perspectives, focusing on broader customer context, and serving as a trusted advisor. 

  • Conduct thorough technical review across existing AI technical stack and identify opportunities to improve.  

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+years experience working with large scale information retrieval or AI system and writing and shipping production-quality code.

  • 4+years Experience as a Machine Learning Architect

  • Excellent collaboration skills working across multiple teams to deliver results

  • Expereince with image, video or text search using LLM

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7+ years experience developing and deploying products or systems at multiple points in the product cycle from ideation to shipping.

  • 7+ years experience conducting research as part of a research program (in academic or industry settings).

  • 5+ years experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team.

  • 3+ years experience presenting at conferences or other events in the outside research/industry community as an invited speaker.

Applied Sciences IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
