Microsoft Corporation Director, Responsible AI Instructional Designer in Redmond, Washington

The Office of Responsible AI plays a leading role in this effort as part of Microsoft’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) team. With a cross-company mandate, and a developed internal practice of responsible AI, we contribute to the conversation about the new laws, norms, and standards that are needed to advance responsible AI for the benefit of society at large.

As Director, R esponsible AI Instructional Design , you will drive the responsible AI training program within Microsoft’s Office of Responsible AI. This role requires deep responsible AI expertise, educational and instructional design experience, and the ability to work across a diverse group of stakeholders to design and implement our corporate responsible AI training strategy and coursework. You will set the overarching strategy, prepare learning content on an iterative and ongoing basis, develop plans for skillset and work role development, and develop measurable learning objectives as part of our overarching governance program. In this role, you will work with our learning and responsible AI counterparts across the company and our responsible AI community to drive a practical and meaningful learning program that helps educate and empower our employees to adopt our responsible AI practices and advance our culture of responsible AI innovation. You will also collaborate with outside the company to develop leading, cutting-edge training that reflects best practices for responsible AI learning.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement responsible AI training materials across a variety of mediums.

  • Drive comprehensive and strategic implementation, awareness, and adoption of Responsible AI training across Microsoft.

  • Identify and define training metrics, objectives, and milestones to enable robust governance measures and drive business impact.

  • Coordinate with responsible AI community members to identifybest practices and needs from subject matter experts to build tailored training that enable effective implementation of responsible AI requirements.

  • Develop and maintainthe Microsoft-wide responsible AI training.

  • Manage and maintain the Office of Responsible AI’s corporate training webpage(s).

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications :

  • Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Technical Writing, Paralegal, or related field AND 10+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education

  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, English, Communication, or related field AND 8+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education

  • OR Master's Degree in Psychology, Education, Marketing, English, Communication, or related field AND 6+ years experience in instructional design, experience design, education

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 3+ years experience working in artificial intelligence (AI)

  • 3+ years program management experience

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in or with a large, matrixed organization.

  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience learning independently in new domains.

  • Proven track record of being able to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders. A key attribute will be the ability to work across multiple disciplines and cultures with stakeholders who have a variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds.

  • Record of being an effective team player dedicated to collective successes. The ability to promote cooperation and solve problems in a timely, creative, and professional manner. Proficiency at working closely and collaboratively with multiple departments and executives, and in cross-functional teams. 

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to rapidly changing environments and demands. 

  • Record of experimentation, learning from both successes and failures. 

  • 5+ year’s experience working in governance, risk, compliance (GRC) fields (e.g., privacy, security).

  • 5+ year’s experience in corporate affairs, corporate social responsibility, engineering, legal affairs, technology policy, research and development, software development, or related area.  

  • Demonstrated commitment to the company’s core values, including a commitment to high ethical standards, unquestioned integrity, and a commitment to advancing the company’s diversity & inclusion commitments. 

Instructional Design IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
