Indian Health Service Social Worker in Red Lake, Minnesota
Summary This position is located at the Red Lake Service Unit. The incumbent contributes to the IHS mission by planning, organizing, improving, and implementing a comprehensive behavioral services and psychosocial interventions for the Red Lake area. The social worker primarily provides clinical services to patients to help them maintain, regain, and enhance their level(s) of functioning when their ability to function is impaired by existing, preventable, or potential illness, disability or injury. Responsibilities Perform short-term and ongoing counseling and diagnostic assessments, crisis counseling, suicide assessments, and triage May provide medical social work functions in the inpatient unit and integrated BH services in the Outpatient department. Coordinate care and provide advocacy within the service unit, community, and outside referral sources for continuity of care. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education -Completed a Master's degree, or higher doctoral degree, in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Licensure - Requires the ability to show proof of and maintain an unrestricted valid Independent Clinical Social Work (LICSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) in a US State or Territory. Selective Placement Factor: - Ability to show proof of unrestricted valid Independent Clinical Social Work (LICSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) in a US State or Territory. Must attach License. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-09 - 1 year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: provide basic assessment, diagnose, and treat a range of psychiatric illnesses; identify and assess psychosocial functioning; understand and respond to medical treatment; provide therapeutic intervention to improve wellness; provide intensive case management services to include liaison, consultation, and teaching relationships to multidisciplinary team; provide referral services and counseling to all age groups. OR 1 year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-09 level. I have completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or a master's degree in social work. OR a combination of experience and graduate education that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for GS-09 grade level. GS-11 - 1 year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples include: collaborate with other health professionals to assess client needs; refer patients to community resources; provide individual or group counseling; coordinate care with expert diagnostic and treatment consultation to medical providers; assess in-patient needs and patient discharge planning; provide therapy to all age groups utilizing a variety of accepted treatment techniques; develop treatment plans; provide interventions surrounding drug, alcohol, co-occurring disorders, and crisis intervention to potentially life-threatening emergencies. OR successfully completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
