JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Berks is now accepting applications for the Part Time Engineering Ahead Coordinator.

The Engineering Ahead program at Penn State Berks is a four-week summer academic enhancement program. This program is designed to help incoming Engineering students succeed in their math and science courses during their first year of college. The coordinator will be responsible for the following:

Recruitment of EA Scholars: Develop recruitment materials; Develop and maintain application submissions; Coordinate with Admissions to access potential EA scholars & Financial Aid to determine student eligibility; Attend all Spring open houses; Targeted outreach via phone calls and emails; Review all applications and conduct interviews (30/year);

Summer Bridge Logistics (June 25-July 21): Coordinate all move-in and living arrangements with Housing & Food; Coordinate with Police Services; Medical form documentation; Welcome Ceremony; Recruit, hire and train student mentors and RAs; Be on call 24/7 during 4 week summer program; Develop and conduct 4 week 8am-8pm (including weekends) summer programming (except math instruction); Create and deliver program via CANVAS; Coordinate with Advising for NSO; Deliver the non-mathematics instruction (soft-skills aspects of college); Recruit faculty and staff (25/year) and to present workshops; Integrate presentations into engineering education discussions; Reserve physical space for program; Purchase needed academic materials; Coordinate with Communication Faculty and Book Club Staff member; Coordinate industry visits and all needed transportation; Collaborate with Abington & UP (College of Engineering) to provide cross-campus programming; Coordinate community service activities; Coordinate all social events; Provide press release for Strategic Communications; Coordinate with 20+ alumni and industry professionals for workshop delivery; Develop and deliver a closing ceremony.

The successful RA should possess the following attributes:

  • Experience coordinating a summer bridge program

  • Experience collaborating with engineering industry partners

  • Experience fostering relationships with engineering alumni

This job requires the following 3 publicly available clearances:

  • PA State Police Criminal Background Check

  • PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form

  • FBI Criminal Background Check
