You are part of a project team that conducts long-term research projects that will help us deliver our strategy. You plan and execute projects and/or work tracks from hypothesis to experiments and through to results interpretation, write up, recommendations and dissemination. In this role, you work with a high level of autonomy and creativity, establish internal technical networks and interact with managers and stakeholders.

How you will contribute

This role sits within the Bio-transformations team. You will plan, lead and coordinate projects and/or work tracks, collaborating with technical colleagues within both the Research and Category teams. You will use your knowledge of ingredient properties & functionalities as well as your ability to define, understand and design food systems to conduct proof of principle testing of novel, Biotransformations derived ingredients. You will generate the samples, data and insights required for us to identify the right ingredients and applications to progress through the organisation. You will plan, lead and execute bench-top experimental work plans and trials following good manufacturing practice and HACCP requirements and oversee scale up to pilot and factory scale where appropriate. To succeed in this role, you will have a high level of technical rigour, curiosity and creativity. You will be able to develop the hypotheses and experimental plans that will demonstrate the commercial and technical potential of novel ingredients across multiple snack categories. As well as extensive benchtop testing you will independently plan, lead and coordinate other key project-related activities such as literature reviews, analytical testing, sensory testing etc. You will build relationships and work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify best practices and grow your technical capabilities. You will work extensively with 3rd parties with the support of senior team members to ensure we are bringing the outside in to accelerate our project delivery. You will form part of the wider Bio-transformations team, spread across the U.K, Singapore and China, helping to build a great team culture based on the principles of belonging, collaboration and engagement.

  • The ability to define ingredients and products from a first principles basis, using this to develop products and test systems form the ground up.

  • A creative approach to technology and product development – able to identify and articulate opportunities for novel technology application and development within our products.

  • A proactive style of working, able to work autonomously towards a brief making key decisions along the way but also able to identify when SME/senior input is needed

  • Communicating complex technical problems and solutions in a clear and concise manner to technical and non-technical stakeholders, adapting style and content accordingly

  • Handling multiple priorities and adhering to deadlines

  • Applying technical curiosity and scientific understanding to interpret and analyse data to reach clear conclusions, make and recommendations and influence decision making

What you need to know about this position:

The Biotransformations team objective is to develop novel ingredient and process technologies principally via extensive collaboration with 3rd parties. This position requires the successful applicant to conduct both desk based and practical research with a high level of autonomy, rigour, creativity, and curiosity.

What extra ingredients you will bring:

The desire, drive and technical ability to translate ingredient technologies into tangible deliverables that allow us to progress the right ingredients through to further development and scale up. An excellent understanding of how to balance both the technical and commercial aspects of research projects.

Travel requirements:

National and international travel will be required to collaborate with 3rd parties, other MDLZ teams and to conduct trials.
