WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Lead Toxicologist to join our California Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) . You will support our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Project Managers (PMs) for our California offices and projects. Our ideal candidate will be a significant contributor both with technical issues and negotiations regarding risk assessment on a team providing project and client management services for hydrogeologic characterization, environmental investigations, water resources assessment, and operational water management.

Your Impact

• Lead and perform human health risk assessments.

• Ensure analysis of literature, data, laboratory samples, and other sources of information uncovers primary, secondary, and tertiary chemical impacts.

• Work with SMEs and PMs to prepare risk assessments.

• Providing technical expertise and/or support for human health risk assessments and development of conceptual site models.

• Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams in executing project work.

• Participate in the application for environmental permits to address issues or concerns and with undertaking any resulting corrective strategies.

• Project management and regulatory agency communications, with responsibilities appropriate to the level of experience of the individual

• Proposal writing and maintaining/developing client relationships to ensure project delivery and generation or repeat business.

• Provide verbal and/or written inputs to multi-disciplinary project teams and contribute to providing high level strategic advice to clients.

• Develop a client base for providing high level environmental risk assessment services including identifying additional business development opportunities.

• Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.

• Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Toxicology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Environmental Chemistry or closely related discipline.

• 10+ years of experience working as a Risk Assessor.

• Highly proficient with analytical chemistry concepts, research, investigation, technology, measurement tools, software, and techniques.

• Project management experience with mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.

• Proven experience and success working in the remediation, water resources and/or mining industries.

• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulatory programs (e.g. MTCA, RCRA, CERCLA).

• Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

• Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

• Proficiency with office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

• Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, and identify the most cost-effective responses that will minimize waste, prevent pollution, and conserve resources.

• Well-defined experience with evaluation of vapor intrusion and sampling soil gas per Cal/EPA, CA State Water Board, CA DTSC and EPA guidelines.

• Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior project experience in the California is highly desired.

• A Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Toxicology, Environmental Chemistry, or similar disciplines.

• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.

• Strong project management experience of multi-disciplinary teams.

• Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) is preferred.

• Experience with environmental statistics and site closure strategies is highly desired.

• Demonstrated experience in mentoring and developing junior staff.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $125,200 - $190,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
