Fortive Corporation VP, Internal Audit in Raleigh, North Carolina

Summary

As the Corporate Internal Audit Leader, you will play a pivotal role in both developing and executing the Internal Audit strategy and audit plan for the organization. The role of Vice President, Internal Audit is one of great visibility. Recruiting an individual who is respected both internally and externally will be crucial to success of this role. Independence is a key trait required, with particular focus on the intellectual ability to form autonomous judgments and confidence to withstand influence.

This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding and experience with internal audit and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) 404 in the manufacturing industry, with a proven track record of successfully leading and managing global internal audit teams, executing Internal Audit plans, and overseeing SOX 404 compliance processes. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping a dynamic and high-performing Internal Audit function aligned with the organization's long-term objectives.

During the first two years, the expectation is that Internal Audit will prioritize its oversight and development of the Company’s SOX compliance program, with a longer-term view to develop and manage a broader risk-based internal audit program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the global Corporate Internal Audit function

  • Develop the Internal Audit strategic plan along with the policies, methodologies and procedures appropriate for the NewCo Internal Audit plan

  • Lead oversight activities to evaluate the effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting to drive compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404

  • Apply extensive industry knowledge and technical expertise to drive appropriate assessment of risks and evaluation of internal controls

  • Provide periodic updates to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and NewCo executive leadership on the status of the internal audit plan

  • Actively pursue opportunities to utilize technology, AI tools, and automation to increase efficiencies and expand coverage of risk

  • Develop effective relationships with key stakeholders, including the Audit Committee chair and other members, NewCo and OpCo (operating company) leadership, and the External Auditor

  • Participate in and support the (Enterprise) Risk Assessment Process led by Legal

Key Bodies of Work to Deliver in Next 18 Months

  • Establish NewCo’s Internal Audit strategy, audit plan, and processes

  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a high performing internal audit team

  • Oversee the Company’s SOX compliance program, including collaboration with NewCo’s and the OpCos’ leadership to drive appropriate assessment processes

  • Develop a roadmap to leverage technology, data analytics, and AI to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of control assessment processes

  • Develop appropriate reporting processes for communication with the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, executive NewCo leadership, and Operating Company management

Requirements

The Vice President, Internal Audit will have a distinguished record of performance at a respected, global manufacturing organization and/or Big4 Public Accounting firm, and be universally recognized as a creative and collaborative leader having the highest standard for integrity and professionalism.

They will be a proven finance executive with experience leading or significantly contributing to a high-performing audit and controls function. The Vice President, Internal Audit will bring both strategic vision and best practices to guide the development of the audit function, coupled with a hands-on and tactical approach to enable effective implementation. A well-rounded audit background, including exposure to IT issues, is desired. Experience in a global organization will best position this leader for success.

The Vice President, Internal Audit will possess a successful track record of recruiting teams and developing talent. Just as important is the ability to successfully develop relationships across all levels and divisions of the organization to identify potential risks and advise on solutions. As this individual will have regular interaction with the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors and the executive leadership team, they must exhibit exceptional presentation skills and executive presence.

Experience, Education, and Travel:

  • Minimum of 18 years of relevant experience in progressively senior roles with a Big4 audit firm or alternate experience with a large global public company. Recent SOX404 experience is imperative

  • University degree, preferably in Accounting or Finance. Certification as a CPA and/or CIA is required

  • Experience with a diverse, global manufacturing organization of appropriate scale and complexity. Exposure to industrial environments with a conglomerate structure is a plus

  • Experience with contemporary audit tools, including AuditBoard, data analytics, and AI strongly preferred

  • Willingness to travel both in the US and internationally as necessary (approximately 20-40%)
