WSP USA Vice President - Load Testing in Raleigh, North Carolina
This Opportunity
WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our dynamic team as Vice President - Load Testing . This leadership role will support and expand our Bridge Load Testing services across the US. The position can be based anywhere in the US, with preference for locations in Mooresville, NC, Raleigh, NC, or Greenville, SC. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned professional to leverage their expertise in load testing, structural health monitoring, and instrumentation while contributing to high-profile projects that ensure the safety and reliability of critical infrastructure across the region.
Your Impact
Lead and Grow Load Testing Services: Oversee and expand WSP's Bridge Load Testing practice, advancing the capabilities of our team and integrating state-of-the-art load testing technologies.
Project Management and Execution: Manage and execute large-scale bridge load testing projects, including instrumentation installation, controlled load testing, and calibration of finite element models.
Strategic Leadership: Drive business development efforts for the load testing and instrumentation service lines, establishing relationships with asset owners, engineering firms, and public agencies to promote WSP's capabilities.
Mentorship and Team Building: Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams, fostering technical excellence, guiding career development, and enhancing the skill set of our team members in load testing, structural health monitoring, and related fields.
Technical Innovation: Lead the development and deployment of innovative load testing methods, including the integration of wireless, solar-powered SHM systems and other novel approaches.
Client Engagement and Consulting: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, consulting on load testing program development, data management, and the procurement of complex monitoring systems.
International Project Experience: Bring experience in designing and implementing international SHM systems, from conceptual design to installation, ensuring adherence to local and international standards.
Quality Assurance: Oversee all aspects of project quality control, from instrumentation design to system commissioning, ensuring adherence to WSP's high standards for safety and technical accuracy.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
12+ years of relevant post education experience in bridge load testing, structural health monitoring, and project management, including leadership roles in developing advanced instrumentation systems.
Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
Extensive experience designing, programming, and installing Campbell Scientific data loggers and other instrumentation technologies.
Proven expertise in advancing bridge load testing from a research-level activity to a commercially accepted asset management tool.
Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing project timelines, budgets, and client expectations effectively.
Strong understanding of finite element modeling, structural analysis, and quality assurance in the context of infrastructure load testing.
Proven track record in developing and managing international load testing and SHM projects, from conceptual design to implementation.
Technical proficiency in MATLAB, AutoCAD, and other industry-standard engineering software.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Ability to work in the United States immediately.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Engineering.
Experience in designing wireless, solar-powered SHM systems and load testing projects across diverse geotechnical structures, from bridges to piers.
Experience managing data management systems for SHM projects, ensuring clients can efficiently access and analyze critical infrastructure data.
Active membership in technical committees or associations related to bridge load testing, such as IABMAS or TRB.
