As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and hardware infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal, the Hardware Systems Engineering team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for seasoned engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.

As a Sr. Director for Hardware Electrical Engineering, you will be the technical voice to the program collaborating across several functional teams from Silicon to customers within Microsoft. You will be deeply engaging the system level design, ensuring EE parts are properly designed and implemented, delivering high quality PCBA solutions to the customers. You will also optimize EE working process, simulation and correlation, board level validation strategy and execution. Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of hardware system electrical engineers.

  • Collaborate with architecture, silicon engineering, firmware, mechanical/thermal hardware design, system validation, program manager, quality, and customer teams to build state-of-the-art compute, storage, and accelerator hardware solutions.

  • Drive Perform NUDD (new, unique, different and difficult) technology and feature analysis and provide risk assessment and mitigations.

  • Drive technical requirements and ensure the solution is flexible and scalable.

  • Collaborate with internal, external, and open-source partners to onboard innovative technologies in a seamless manner.

  • Build EE team expertise, process, and framework to being agile enough to support business needs

  • Experience working in the E2E Solution space of the hardware design collaborating with several cross functional teams across silicon, platform, and customer teams.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 11+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 9+ years technical engineering experience

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 5+ years people manager experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 15+ years of technical engineering experience

  • Experience with working from early silicon platform design to mature silicon execution

  • Experience working with multiple teams on Root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging skills resulting into solving complex Hardware/Firmware interface issues.

  • Experience with Platform initialization, Board support package integration, high speed and low speed interfaces, simulation and correlation

  • Experience working at hands on ODM

  • Experience working at Tier1 CSPs

Hardware Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
