Eaton Corporation Principal Engineer - Power Electronics Control in Raleigh, North Carolina

Eaton’s Power Electronics and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) is currently seeking a Principal Engineer - Power Electronics Control. This position will be located in Raleigh, NC. Relocation assistance and company sponsorship will be offered to candidates currently residing within the US/PR.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $128250.0 - $188100.0 a year.

What you’ll do:

The PE-Battery CoE at Eaton is a catalyst for the company’s growth. It fosters the development of scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable technology and platforms. Additionally, it establishes standardized design methodologies that can be adopted across various business units. This approach lays a solid foundation for our business to expedite the development of innovative products.

The individual who assumes this role will be a pivotal member of the PE-Battery CoE. The individual will play a significant role in steering the development of technology, platforms, common building blocks, and design methodologies. These resources will be leveraged by multiple business units, further enhancing Eaton’s capacity for innovation. In this role, you will:

  • Assume a leadership role in designing and implementing control architecture and algorithms. This includes state machines and protection features for electric motors, power converters, and battery management systems.

  • Take the lead in developing embedded software architecture, taking into account factors such as hardware interrupts, varying task rates, and task sequences.

  • Work in close collaboration with hardware engineers to seamlessly integrate control algorithms and firmware into hardware. Validate these integrations using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and hardware.

  • Generate comprehensive technical documentation. This includes specifications for control and firmware architecture, descriptions of control algorithms, interface requirements, and design validation plans.

  • Initiate and guide design reviews and technical discussions, fostering a culture of brainstorming and open dialogue.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of 10 years of industry experience with the development of power electronics control or motor control, including the development of control architecture, algorithms, and embedded software

  • Experience in control and embedded SW validation with HIL (e.g., OPAL-RT HIL)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Experience with embedded software structuring and C/C++ programming

  • Experience in developing and implementing controls with auto-code generation tools (e.g., Simulink Coder)

  • Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members

Skills:

  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual

  • Strong expertise in digital controls

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes (e.g., DFSS)

  • Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment

  • Position requires up to 15% travel domestically and internationally
