The Role

This manager is responsible for overseeing a team of direct reports that provide Core Long Haul DWDM capacity for the entire Enterprise Lumen network. This includes the Planning, Engineering, and Implementing of Long Haul DWDM Route builds. This involves the space, power, and fiber forecasting, traffic analysis, and executing on a Headroom Management policy.

Location and Schedule

This is a full time work from home, US position. The typical schedule is Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, completes, and oversees job-related activities and assignments for Core Long Haul Planning team by developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders; supporting plans and initiatives to meet Customer and business needs; identifying and communicating goals and objectives; building accountability for and measuring progress in achieving results; identifying and addressing improvement opportunities; and demonstrating adaptability and promoting continuous learning.

  • Ensures Long Haul Waves capacity requirements are met with the highest quality and most efficient cost structure by adhering to expense and capital budgets, network augments, upgrades and decommissioning activities; balancing work volumes; supporting operational issues; monitoring and adjusting voice network capacity technology, lifecycle and regulatory legal changes to the network.

  • Remains up to date on the latest industry developments by subscribing to industry journals, attending industry conferences; analyzing competitor products and services; interacting with customers; networking with industry professionals; and remaining flexible & open to change to see where trends are going.

  • Builds talent muscle by developing direct report employees, formulating midyear and end of year reviews; conducting assessments; coaching employees of all level; succession planning; ensuring employees receive appropriate training for both job related knowledge and compliance activities; creating appropriate job responsibilities as the work and functions required by the business evolve; ensuring employees performance is measured, feedback is provided, calibration sessions are conducted and the bar is set high.

  • Oversees network capacity trends, processes and systems by partnering with direct reports and supporting organizations to understand current network capacity concerns, solutions, costs, and recommendations; communicating concerns and issues to the leadership team to help them understand future actions, optimization, network augments, etc.; supporting direct reports in resolving process and system issues; partner with direct reports to identify improvements that can be made in process/systems to make work flow smoother, better, and faster.

  • Develops relationships across the company by collaborating with BU partners in product management, technology strategy and development, finance, vendor technical management, other planning disciplines, engineering, operations to ensure expense, capital budgets, and facility cost objectives are built sufficiently to support anticipated growth and to deploy new features, functionality, and upgrades as required; monitors and provides guidance if trends are showing a gap between budgets and actuals throughout the year.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • Typically 6+ years related experience and a Bachelor's Degree OR 4+ years related experience with Master’s degree.

  • 4 years experience with DWDM networks including traffic analysis, Planning & Engineering of new systems, Capacity Management, or Hyperscaler DWDM capacity deployments.

  • 2-3 years experience with vendor negotiations

  • 2-3 year of proficiency with Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint

  • 2-3 years’ experience with cost savings initiatives and capital budgeting

Preferred

  • Experience in Ciena 6500 or RLS, Infinera DTN-X, or Nokia 1830 platforms.

  • 1+ years’ experience in at least one of the following: Capital Forecasting, Senior Level Presentations, or SQL Scripting

  • Masters in Business or MS in Computer Science or Engineering

Compensation

The starting salary for this role differs based on the employee's primary work location. Employees typically do not start at the top of the range, though compensation depends on each individual's qualifications.

Location Based Pay Ranges

$94420 - $125890 in these states: AR, ID, KY, LA, ME, MS, NE, SC, and SD.

$99390 - $132510 in these states: AZ, AL, FL, GA, IN, IA, KS, MO, MT, NM, ND, OH, OK, PA, TN, UT, VT, WV, WI, and WY.

$104360 - $139140 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NV, NH, NC, OR, and RI.

$109330 - $145770 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DE, DC, IL, MD, MA, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.

As with the pay range variety that's based on the region of a country, specific offers are determined by various factors such as experience, education, skills, certifications and other business needs.
