UNC Health Care Manager Cancer Registry in Raleigh, North Carolina

Summary:

Provide managment for the cancer registry to meet all state/federal requirements and standards for accreditations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of case finding, abstracting, and follow-up activities of the Cancer Registry. Ensure the computerized data management system is in compliance with ACoS standards and that upgrades are current.

  2. Responsible for efficient staffing to meet departmental needs. Responsible for the hiring process, orientation of new coworkers, and evaluation of the coworkers performance to ensure all registry requirements are met and to ensure Rex standards of performance are met.

  3. Responsible for developing reports using Registry data (including narrative summaries and comparisons, survival analyses, and graphic presentation of data).

  4. Responsible for performing/ coordinating quality assurance audits and patient care evaluation studies on Registry data. Responsible for the timely reporting of cancer incidence data to NC Central Cancer Registry (NCCCR) and National Cancer Database.

  5. Leads and/or participates on teams to achieve targeted results. Responsible for performance improvement activities.

  6. Responsible for monitoring and completion of registry program activities based on established regulatory, professional, organizational standards. Assures compliance with ACoS requirements of an approved Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program. Responsible for completion of Cancer Center annual report.

  7. Prepares and maintains accountability for departmental budget and utilization of resources. Identifies variances and measures taken to address the variance. Regularly reports to Director financial status of the department.

  8. Acts as liaison to outside organizations and associations like the American Cancer Society, the NC Advisory Committee on Cancer Coordination and Control, the NCCCR and state and national professional organizations.

  9. Plans, coordinates and integrates services within the department and with other departments throughout the organization. Develops, implements, maintains policies and procedures for the cancer registry.

Education Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) in Life Science, Medical Records, Nursing, or Allied Health field from a four-year college or university required.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● CTR

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Minimum 3 years of experience with a cancer registry; related work experience preferred. Management experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

● Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general scientific and professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, hospital staff, physicians and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,). Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic forms and deals with several abstract and concrete variables.
