Salary Placement and Work Hours:This is a 12-month, full-time position. Placement will be on the E2 Salary Schedule. The work week is Monday through Friday, and hours worked will be a minimum of 40 per week. Some weekend work will be required as institutional needs arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Position: Police Officer

Functions:The Police Officer is responsible for safeguarding college students and personnel as well as college property, equipment, and buildings. This employee must comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Safeguard college students, employees, and authorized campus visitors.
  2. Safeguard the college property, including off-campus sites, buildings, and equipment.
  3. Enforce Alabama Community College System and college policies and regulations as well as state and federal laws.
  4. Prepare accident and crime reports.
  5. Check parking decals.
  6. Serve as the liaison officer for the Alabama Emergency Management Association.
  7. Assist with the establishment and maintenance of the Emergency Operations Center.
  8. Assist the college in preparing its Crisis Management Plan and other safety and security plans.
  9. Inspect incoming campus mail for security and safety.
  10. Check campus fire equipment, automated external defibrillators, emergency chairs, and the functionality of escape routes and exit signs on a schedule determined by the Police Chief
  11. Be available 24 hours each day of the week in case of emergencies or for other needs as deemed necessary by the President.
  12. Ensure that exterior campus lighting is functioning properly on the timing system established by the Police Chief
  13. Issue and follow through on maintenance service requests to replace or repair lighting.
  14. Maintain professional knowledge and continuing education requirements.
  15. Maintain current knowledge of institutional student and employee complaint processes.
  16. Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees, the Alabama Community College System, and Northeast Alabama Community College.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or President.
Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Physical ability to perform duties as a police officer and the ability to lift and move at least 40 lbs.
  • Thorough knowledge of Alabama state and federal laws.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GEDrequired
  • Firearms certificationrequired
  • A minimum of five years of experience as a police officer preferred
  • Certified by Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission
  • Experience with the control and disposal of hazardous waste
  • Experience with first aid procedures and techniques
  • CPR trained
  • Valid Alabama Drivers License
  • ALERRT Active Shooter Training Basic I
  • Physical ability to perform duties as a police officer and the ability to lift and move at least 40 lbs
  • Thorough knowledge of Alabama state and federal laws
  • Knowledge of Alabama Community College System and Northeast Alabama Community College policies and procedures
