Apprenticeship Overview Position SummaryThe Cyber Security Analyst Apprenticeship is a skills-first position within Merck & Co., Inc. geared toward building a career in Cyber Security. As an apprentice, you will spend four days per week in on-the-job training and one day per week completing OpenClassrooms’ online Cyber Security Analyst Apprenticeship training path - all while earning an income! At the completion of your apprenticeship, you will receive a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate for Completion of Registered Apprenticeship Program.This competency-based training program is approximately 15-months long and includes 3-month intensive skills boot camp to build core skills followed by a 12-month long apprenticeship.Futureproof Your Career with OpenClassroomsOpenClassrooms’ mission is to make education accessible to everyone. Joining OpenClassrooms means becoming part of a global community of over 12,000 active and motivated learners spread across 72 countries.Apprentice Responsibilities:Develop computer or information security policies or proceduresDevelop plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs.Update knowledge about emerging industry or technology trendsMonitor current reports of computer viruses to determine when to update virus protection systems.Implement security measures for computer or information systemsEncrypt data transmissions and erect firewalls to conceal confidential information as it is being transmitted and to keep out tainted digital transfers.Modify computer security files to incorporate new software, correct errors, or change individual access status.Review violations of computer security procedures and discuss procedures with violators to ensure violations are not repeated.Maintain permanent fleet cryptologic and carry-on direct support systems required in special land, sea surface and subsurface operations.Test computer system operations to ensure proper functioningPerform risk assessments and execute tests of data processing systems to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures.Collaborate with others to resolve information technology issuesConfer with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes.Document operational procedures Document computer security and emergency measures policies, procedures, and tests.Troubleshoot issues with computer applications or systemsConfer with users to discuss issues such as computer data access needs, security violations, and programming changes.Coordinate project activities with other personnel or departmentsCoordinate implementation of computer system plan with establishment personnel and outside vendors.Monitor the security of digital informationMonitor use of data files and regulate access to safeguard information in computer files.Train others in computer interface or software useTrain users and promote security awareness to ensure system security and to improve server and network efficiency.Qualifications:Able to work {{on-site within the employer's Location, remote, or hybrid}} At least 18 years of age U.S. citizen or have the right to work in the U.S. Available to commit to a 3-month skills bootcamp followed by a 2000-hour apprenticeship program (approximately 15 months total)Strong verbal and written communication skills in English (for non-native speakers a TOEFL score of 80 is recommended)High school diploma or equivalent, up to an Associates degree 2+ years of experience in IT support, Tier 1 support, Identity access management, etc.Technical knowledge:Fundamentals of computer literacy (high-school level)Have taken the course Discover the World of cybersecurity.Optional: Complete the following courses at your pace, for free: Setup TCP/IP network, Run your computer using Linux, Set Up Virtual Machines VirtualBox and vSphere, Manage Windows Server.
