What you will do:

This is a unique opportunity to join the growing Legal Department at Stryker Canada, reporting directly to the Regional (General) Counsel for Canada. The Associate Regional Counsel will be a strategic business partner to Stryker’s Canadian business and will be responsible for advising on a broad range of legal and business issues. The Associate Regional Counsel will be a legal “generalist” responsible for drafting and negotiating a variety of contractual arrangements and providing counsel to internal stakeholders in support of the diverse day-to-day activities and strategic projects of the Canadian business.

The Associate Regional Counsel is a hybrid role and will include the option to work remotely in accordance with the Company’s Workplace Flexibility policy.

You will:

  • Proactively collaborates with internal teams/departments to promote a culture of inclusiveness and cooperation

  • Independently draft and negotiate various types of partnership, customer, and vendor agreements, including sales, service, supply, distribution, consulting, clinical study, product trial, confidentiality, and similar commercial agreements, all in a manner that manages business and legal risk

  • Conduct complex legal analysis and provide timely, solutions-oriented support to internal stakeholders on a broad range of Canadian laws, rules, and regulations related to the sale of medical devices and interactions with healthcare professionals (HCPs) in Canada.

  • In partnership with the Canadian Compliance team, draft and implement appropriate agreements for HCP consultancies and research sponsorships

  • Review advertising and marketing materials for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Stryker corporate policies.

  • Provide counsel and support in the context of large transactional matters such as global acquisitions.

  • Maintain working knowledge of current and emerging laws and regulations, industry trends, and guidance on country, provincial, and local laws, as well as Stryker corporate policies.

  • Successfully partner with both external and internal counsel to support the needs of the Canadian business.

  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with HR, Sales, Finance, Operations, and other key stakeholders within the Canadian and global Stryker business units.

  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with various COEs, including Litigation, Intellectual Property, Employment and Labor, Privacy, Global Technology, and Regulatory, amongst many others.

  • Support Stryker’s global legal and compliance network and its risk management initiatives.

  • Actively participate in the projects and work undertaken by the International Global Legal team.

  • Assist with other mandates at the direction of the Regional Counsel.

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • 10 years of general work experience is required

  • 5+ years of legal counsel experience gained in a large firm environment and/or relevant in-house position, with significant commercial and/or corporate contracts and drafting experience is preferred

  • JD from a recognized Canadian law school and active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario is required

  • French Bilingual is a strong asset

  • Experience supporting business in Quebec is highly desirable
