Job Description Summary
The Variable Geometries Engineer contributes to the design and development of mechanisms used to improve the performance and operability of the Jet Engines. Includes activities related to design, analysis, integration and validation of existing and new engine lines. Responsible for project’s planning and execution of engineering activities that result on functional mechanisms. Functions with some autonomy but guided by GE design practices, GE policies and review at different boards/forums of end results.

Roles and Responsibilities
The mechanical design engineer is the main responsible of translating customer, program, technical and regulatory requirements into reliable, maintainable and safe designs through a solid ability on Mechanical Design of machinery.
Leads the implementation of innovative analysis, design, development concepts, processes, and system solutions that meet key stakeholder’s requirements. Due to the proven design experience, execute those tasks with minimal guidance.
Owns technical & business substantiation of Variable Geometry design and must be able to present such substantiations on internal and external boards.
Communicates project status, business issues or meaningful information that interferes with project fulfillment to the VG staff and proposes solutions within available resources or triggers request for additional resources.
Provides coaching, mentorship and/or technical guidance to other personnel and assigned teams, mentors others in the organization as VG subject matter expert.
Demonstrates a solid mechanical background that allows execution of complex technical projects, giving technical insights to other personnel or teams and assuring the quality of own and another people’s work.
Drives the investigation and development of new technologies or methodologies to increase the design knowledge, efficiency, and expertise of the team.
Prepares and submit invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business.
Documents technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics, Mechanical-Administrative Engineering, Mechanical-Electrical Engineering, Physics or Mechatronics.
Ability to communicate with program leadership, understand customer needs and elaborate mechanical designs that satisfy customer and technical requirements.
Proven track record of execution and managing multiple design tasks with minimal guidance.
Demonstrated capability in new product design process by managing schedule, tasks, cost vs. program requirements.
Ability to communicate with and influence Senior Leadership through strong argumentation and presentation skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills: English at intermediate level, Spanish at advanced level.
