FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. The English Department at LaGuardia Community College is seeking highly motivated and innovative candidates to fill a full-time position in English with specializationin broadcast journalism at the Lecturer or Lecturer with Doctorate level.

The Lecturer / Doctoral Lecturer will teach courses in broadcast, print/online, and/or multimedia journalism and college composition; provide academic advisement of students; actively participate in departmental and college-wide initiatives, including curriculum development and professional development activities; and be engaged in scholarly activities, such as conference participation.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Doctoral Lecturer:

Ph.D. in journalism or related field required. Significant professional experience in broadcast journalism, as well as prior experience teaching in higher education, are required. Ability to teach both in person and online is required. Expertise in teaching college level courses in print/online, and/or multimedia journalism and college composition is also required.Experience with reporting in diverse communities is desirable. Demonstrated professional achievement, and willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

For Lecturer:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field required and master’s degree preferred. Significant professional experience in broadcast journalism, as well as prior experience teaching in higher education, are required. Ability to teach both in person and online is required. Expertise in teaching college level courses in print/online, and/or multimedia journalism and college composition is also required.Experience with reporting in diverse communities is desirable. Demonstrated professional achievement, and willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

Lecturer: $52,072-$92,878

Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule): $56,821-$98,309
