What you’ll do:
• Design and deliver math curricula that meets state standards and adapts to the individual needs of students, many of whom have experienced academic setbacks.
• Teach math in a hands-on, engaging manner that connects abstract concepts to real-world applications, helping students see the value of math in their daily lives.
• Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment that promotes both academic growth and personal development.
• Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including visual aids, manipulatives, and project-based learning, to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
• Collaborate with other educators, counselors, and support staff to address the behavioral, emotional, and academic needs of students, helping them overcome barriers to success.
• Provide individualized attention and interventions for students who need extra support, ensuring that all learners are given the tools to succeed.
• Build relationships with students that inspire trust, confidence, and a willingness to engage in learning.
• Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills through interactive math lessons and collaborative activities.
• Track and assess student progress, providing feedback and tailored instruction to help students meet learning objectives.
• Serve as a mentor and positive role model, demonstrating resilience, perseverance, and a commitment to learning.
• Participate in professional development opportunities focused on trauma-informed practices, social-emotional learning, and effective strategies for working with at-risk youth.
To be considered, you should:
Possesses a current and valid State teaching credential in English, Math, Science and/or Special Education.
Have related experience working with at-risk youth
Have three or more years of successful classroom teaching
Possess a knowledge of:
Instructional strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning.
Various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school aged youth.
Effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles that result in understanding of how to manage and teach to various learning styles.
Effective communication techniques that enable positive and productive collaboration with site staff.
Technology and how it can be used as an educational tool.
Have the ability to:
Establish a teaching rapport with students which results in student achievement in all program areas.
Diagnose, prescribe and evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis.
Collaborate with staff to deliver a consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students.
Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures.
Accept additional tasks as assigned including flexible work schedule and extracurricular assignments.
Be able to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test.
