Primary Purpose of Job:

Contribute to the ongoing growth of STANTEC ResourceNet Private India Ltd by providing technical expertise in the dams and hydro projects. Stantec is working on many of the world’s largest, complex and most exciting dams and hydro projects. Due to our ongoing success, we are rapidly growing and seek an experienced and highly motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team, working on the design and development of cutting-edge dams, hydropower and pumped storage hydro solutions. We are looking for someone who can design and develop complex solutions for major dams and hydropower clients. You will join a large and growing team of mechanical engineers working closely with our multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate significant mechanical engineering experiences and skills in the dams and hydro sector, and who has a good understanding of how the various disciplines within the sector come together to create an integrated solution.

Our roles on projects include traditional advisory, Owner’s Engineer, client facing concept design, contractor facing detailed design, remediation and troubleshooting, installation support and Lender’s engineer / insurance / due diligence support.

This role will be a key role as Mechanical technical lead to co-ordinate mechanical hydro design work between Stantec regional global offices (primarily Stantec UK) and Pune office. Support project managers, technical leaders, design engineers, clients, supply chain partners, contractors, and other stakeholders by providing technical support to ensure that project outcomes in terms of budget, schedule, technical and quality standards, meet both the client and STANTEC expectations. You will help develop the team by acting as a mentor or guide to less experienced members.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Knowledge of international Codes and Standards in dams and hydro – mechanical

  • Producing technical specifications, designs, and reports.

  • Optioneering, outline and detail design relating to hydro and dams.

  • Power & energy calculations, mechanical schedules

  • Integrating closely with associated disciplines for collaborative reviews and designs of solutions.

  • Preparation of Bill of Quantities

  • Guiding Engineering/ CAD team for quality delivery

  • Carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor/management,

  • Need to work off-hours for client co-ordination: Occasionally.

Person Specifications:

  • A master’s degree in mechanical engineering, from an accredited institution.

  • Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council UK or IMechE is preferred.

  • Must have 20-25 years of experience of mechanical design of the following: - Dams (or dam components)

  • Hydro and/or pumped storage hydro systems

  • Design/assessment of hydraulic structures (channels, culverts, bridges, spillways, stilling basin).

  • Experience elsewhere within Energy and water sectors is advantageous.

  • Proficiency in design using UK codes and other regulations related to Energy sector.

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of CDM/international safety requirements.

  • Excellent Technical report writing skills.

  • Strong working experience within 3D environment using appropriate 3D design and modeling tools e.g. REVIT, Plant 3D, Inventor etc.

  • Make an effective and collaborative contribution to the team through sharing knowledge, promoting ideas, and valuing the contribution of all team members.

  • Innovative, result oriented, provide ideas and work on them.

  • Experience in Common Data / Document environment system - ProjectWise, BIM360

  • General knowledge of construction techniques and practices, construction management.

  • Capable to analyze, assess, evaluate the issues, complexity pertaining to projects / work packages and support in mitigating them in advance.

  • Competent level of professionalism and confident with the essential business and communication skills that are required for career growth in all positions.

  • Rigorous attention to detail, able to understand and adopt workflows and commitment to personal professional development.

  • Flexible attitude to accepting different work assignments and pro-active attitude to execution / delivery.
