Philips Mechanical Designer - Plastics - STET in Pune, India

You are responsible for:

  • Plastic part design and development.

  • Create and develop 3D models and detailed drawings of plastic components using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).

  • Perform feasibility studies and optimize designs for manufacturability and assembly.

  • Create design prototypes and oversee testing procedures to validate product designs.

  • Evaluate and select appropriate plastic materials based on performance criteria, cost, and environmental impact.

  • Conduct material testing and analysis to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations

  • Collaborate with project managers to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.

  • Prepare and present design proposals and progress reports to stakeholders.

  • Manage timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure project success.

  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams to develop design solutions.

  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure the quality and timely delivery of components

  • Ensure that all designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and quality guidelines.

  • Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to address design issues.

  • Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in plastic design and manufacturing.

  • Suggest and implement improvements in design processes, tools, and methodologies.

  • Responsible for DFM and DFA activities & optimization of design for cost reduction.

  • Create DFMEA and identify relevant product risks.

  • Apply GD&T and perform Tolerance stack-up analysis for components/Sub-system.

  • Developing manufacturing specifications by using CAD tools like Solid works & Creo for modeling, assembly, detailing including drawing conversions & generating BoM.

  • Perform hand calculations to support the design and sound knowledge of Strength of Material.

  • Responsible for First Article Inspections and wherever required perform measurements.

  • Work with supplier, procurement engineer to complete the Prototype and qualifications.

  • Knowledge in Test fixtures design & development based on component/sub-system functionality.

  • Understand Requirements to design & perform unit level verifications to confirm with requirements.

  • Responsible for unit level testing and integration of unit in accordance with the higher-level Requirement and Design specifications / architectures.

  • Reliability and Serviceability of the system / subsystem / component.

  • Responsible for creating/updating DMR/DHF in the respective tools.

  • Perform FEA (if required)

  • Life Cycle Manager for Philips Medical Installed Base of Product(s)/Product line(s).

  • Manage the obsolescence and product issues

  • Effectively resolve customer complaints or production issues

  • Manage the internal and external stakeholders effectively

  • Manage the multi-disciplinary cross functional team (R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, Service, Marketing, Procurement, Quality, Regulatory,) to realize results

  • Prepare, plan, track and coordinate cross functional teams located across geographies and manage project deliverable.

  • Accountable for overall delivery of project in line with QMS and PRP process as per the agreed multi-site Quality Agreement.

  • Coaching and Supporting junior team members

  • Ensuring business continuity and revenues.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience.

  • Education: M.Tech, B.E, or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Experience: Over 10 years of experience in the design and development of mechanical sub-systems and systems.

  • Design Skills: Proficiency in structural design and CAD for creating 3D models and manufacturing drawings. Experience in FEA analysis is preferred.

  • Material and Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of plastics, sheet metal, machining, welding, surface treatments/coatings (metals), and other manufacturing processes. Ability to identify suitable materials and create EBOMs.

  • Analytical Skills: Proficient in performing hand calculations for designs. Create DFMEAs and identify product risks.

  • Design Expertise: Proficiency in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and DFM/DFA principles.

  • Engineering Skills: Knowledge of the latest engineering design methods, tools, and processes. Ability to create functional requirement documentation.

  • Industry Standards: Working knowledge of IEC 60601 standards is preferred.

  • Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Communication: Strong communication and collaboration skills. Ability to present ideas and convince project team members.

  • Teamwork and Leadership: Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Demonstrates leadership skills and a drive for results. Self-motivated, with the ability to coach, support, and direct engineers in a subgroup.

  • Mindset and Organization: System thinking mindset, domain expertise in the related area, structured and self-organized. Quality mindset in design and documentation.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Intercultural sensitivity and a disciplined team worker.
