Summary of Duties:

 

The role of the Student Success Coach (SSC) is to provide holistic academic support for students across all College of Nursing (CON) programs. Areas of support include but are not limited to: learning strategies, stress management, life/school balance, adjusting to college, professional development and providing additional resources. This position will create and deliver student presentations and materials related to academic success. The SSC provides support to faculty through collaboration with faculty and academic advisors. Additionally, this position will coordinate and oversee the Nursing Peer Mentor program for the prelicensure BSN program, partnering experienced peers with students earlier in their education.

 

There is an expectation that this position serve the College of Nursing students in Tri-Cities/Richland and Yakima. Face-to-face interaction will be required at least once per week in both locations. Primary work location (either Yakima campus or Tri-Cities campus) is at the preference of the incumbent.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

• Student Success Coaching - 50%

• Administration - 25%

• Student Recruitment & Retention - 20%

• Miscellaneous - 5%

 

Required Qualifications: Positions require a Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

• Understanding of effective learning strategies, such as: spaced review, retrieval practice, dual coding, concrete examples, elaboration, interleaving.

• Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

• Demonstrated computer software skills, including the ability to use office software such as databases, spreadsheets, word processing, and Microsoft Office programs.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment and a diverse student population.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.

• High level of interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, including presentations.

• Demonstrated public speaking skills/experience.

• Able to reliably work at both the Tri-Cities/Richland and Yakima campuses. Face-to-face interaction will be required at least once per week in both locations. Primary work location (either Yakima campus or Tri-Cities campus) is at the preference of the incumbent.

• Able to travel to other campus locations (Vancouver, WA and Spokane, WA) as scheduled. If using a private vehicle for official business, the successful candidate must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in http://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.30.020 andhttp://apps.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=46.29.090) and possess a valid driver's license. Mileage will be reimbursed.
