Express Employment Professionals Mechanical Inspector in Pueblo, Colorado

Position Summary:

Mechanical Inspectors visit new and existing building sites to determine compliance of newly installed mechanical systems with applicable mechanical codes adopted by Pueblo County and the City of Pueblo, Colorado. Mechanical Inspectors inspect the installation of mechanical systems, vents and ducts, heating and air conditioning equipment, gas piping, and gas-fired and oil-fired appliances. Prepares written reports and maintains records of work performed. Work is performed under general direction of the Chief Mechanical Inspector.

Essential Job Functions:

o Inspects construction projects to ensure mechanical components are following all mechanical codes.

o Aids and verifies alternate methods of construction to meet the intent of each mechanical code.

o Aids architects, engineers, and contractors concerning mechanical component issues and designs.

o Reviews all relevant mechanical codes. Provides interpretation and recommendations to ensure compliance with the intent of each mechanical code.

o Interprets and applies current mechanical codes.

o Documents results of inspections.

o Effectively communicates findings to homeowners and contractors.

o Coordinates with and assists other field inspectors. Picks up extra inspections as needed.

o Explains and clarifies mechanical code related problems with contractor field personnel.

o Communicates and upholds mechanical codes consistently.

o Conducts building mechanical damage assessment inspections and safety compliance inspections.

o Invests time in continued education.

o Fills in for Senior Mechanical Inspector as needed.

o Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License. Must obtain or possess ICC

Residential Inspector Certification before date of hire and Commercial Mechanical Inspector Certification within 6 (six) months of hire. Must be computer literate to retrieve, update and keep accurate details concerning construction projects, building and occupancy permits and inspection results. Must have considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, materials, and tools of the building construction trade. Must have some knowledge of applicable mechanical codes. Must be able to use laptop computer to enter and update information as well as look up mechanical codes related to building inspections. Must possess the ability to read plans, blueprints, engineering reports and specifications, and to interpret and apply them. Must be able to answer phones, write reports and deal with the public. Must have knowledge of human relations. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Education and Experience:

Must have a minimum of High School diploma or equivalent and five years of experience in the mechanical construction trades or equivalent combination of mechanical construction trades education and minimum of three years mechanical construction trades experience. Prefer progressively responsible experience in mechanical code enforcement. Preference given for three or more years' experience in mechanical construction supervision. Must have experience in dealing with the public and maintain temperament during difficult situations.
