State of Utah - Jobs Occupational Therapist Assistant-Utah St in PROVO, Utah

The Utah State Hospital is seeking a licensed *Occupational Therapy Assistant *to work in Provo,UT.  

The shift is Monday through Friday--No Weekends Required!  

Nestled up against the beautiful Wasatch mountains of Utah County,this sprawling 300 acre campus is home to multiple units specializing in the mental healthcare of psychiatric patients. Ranging from pediatric to geriatric-aged patients,the Occupational Therapy Assistant will be able to work with a variety of patients to ensure proper therapeutic treatment is administered.

Occupational Therapy practitioners work with patients throughout the lifespan in identifying functional barriers associated with challenges of mental illness and support in development of improved capacities to manage symptoms through occupational engagement.

Staff use standardized assessments of cognition,sensory processing and modulation,and functional performance in addition to task analysis to inform treatment plans and provide social skills,sensory coping,and life skills training according to needs and level of functioning of the individual served.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Will have experience working with psychiatric patients in a healthcare setting

  • Will possess great communication and organizational skills

  • Will have a desire to effect positive change in individuals with mental health and behavioral challenges

*Minimum Qualifications *

  • Must possess certification by the American Occupational Therapy Licensure from the Utah Occupational Therapy License Board

Example of Duties

  • Providing individual and group skill training with appropriate documentation

  • Assessing the needs and barriers of the patient,and collaborating with the Occupational Therapist supervisor to ensure these needs are met

  • An opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary care team of psychiatrists,medical doctors,nurses,and social workers to ensure optimal patient car

  • On the job training for all experience levels

  • A variety of treatment and assessment opportunities

  • Evaluate patient needs and administer therapy to preserve and improve abilities for independent function,such as range of motion,strength,tolerance,coordination,behavioral management skills,social skills,and activities of daily living.

  • Coordinating program activities,services,and/or program implementation with private providers,other governmental entities,program users,etc.

  • Performing physical assessments of patients and/or residents; refers patients requiring further evaluation or treatment to a registered nurse,nurse practitioner,physician or other health care professional.

  • Documenting client/patient progress and revises treatment plans as required; completes administrative paperwork.

Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier I System.

Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))

Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Your employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  

Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:

Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).

Annual leave amounts increase with years of service.

We have 12 paid holidays.
