COMMUNITY ACTION SERVICES, INC. Assistant HUD Counselor/Trainer SPANISH in PROVO, Utah

Position Summary:  

The Assistant HUD Counselor/Trainer the position will have the opportunity to help families and individuals prepare for home ownership through participation in budget and money management, credit pulls, homebuyer education classes, and through exploring community resources. Additionally, this position works with homeowners to prevent foreclosure with goal setting, contacting lenders, and budget and money management classes. Finally, this position will monitor client's progress with follow-up calls and emails.  

 

Responsibilities: 

Under the direction of the Housing Program Director, the HUD Counselor/Trainer will be responsible for staffing the financial learning center and maintaining a professionally run learning center to meet the needs of our clients. This position combines both individual counseling and group learning opportunities for our clients to meet their financial learning needs, and documenting the various types of client contacts in the agency database.

The Assistant HUD Counselor/Trainer is responsible for carrying out the following types of activities: 

  • Counsel/teach individuals and groups on budgeting, money management, and home buying process.  

  • Maintains all necessary records including client files in both paper and electronic formats, Google shared calendars, and accurate client contact logs. 

  • Refer clients to other resources as needed 

  • Assist clients with Mortgage and Utility assistance   

  • Attends staff and training meetings as directed. 

  • Assist clients in creating and completing a Budget, as well as the "make a plan of action" documents. 

  • Assist clients in understanding online resources such as MINT and Annualcreditreport.com 

  • Follow-up with clients on their "make a plan of action" 

  • Accept extra assignments as needed or requested. 

     

Qualifications: 

  • Adheres to all CASFB policies and procedures. 

  • Knowledge of budget and money management. 

  • Background in banking, mortgage lending, or accounting preferred. 

  • High School diploma with some College in related field preferred. 

  • Must study for and pass the HUD housing counselor certification exam within the three month of employment. 

  • A working knowledge of the home buying process. 

  • Knowledge of Community Action Services and Food Bank programs and resources. 

  • Must be honest, fair, and courteous. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or teaching adults preferred. 

  • Able to work as a team player who can resolve problems. 

  • Must be dependable, motivated, and a self starte r. 

  • Flexible and able to work some evenings and weekends as required 

  • Bi-lingual -- Spanish-speaking required.
