Provo City is looking for a full-time Airport Operations Specialist II to assist in directing airside operations, maintaining Provo’s Airport Operating Certificate, and coordinating airport security, including airport security systems and facilities. What is the compensation?

Pay Rate: (G25, G26, G28) $23.66-$37.76 per hour (depending on experience)

What are the main duties?

  • Assist with the inspection of airfield to comply with Federal Aviation Regulations including 12 CFR Part 139.

  • Closely monitor all airfield areas for disrepair and file work order requests.

  • Assist with closing the airport if life-threatening runway conditions exist.

  • Ensure safe and smooth flow of aircraft during inclement weather and construction.

  • Complete all required paperwork, communication and training to maintain FAA airport certifications.

  • Respond to inquiries, requests, and complaints.

  • Act as Airport Security Coordinator for commercial airline operations.

  • Assist with identifying, assessing, and resolving security issues.

  • Ensure TSR 1542 compliance.

  • Strictly maintain authorized airfield access via ID/media monitoring.

  • Monitor, inspect, and routinely patrol all airport areas for safety concerns, operation and security issues, and compliance with federal, state and local law, rules, and regulations.

  • Perform grounds maintenance on airport property.

  • Ensure all airport electrical systems/equipment, radio equipment, landing direction indicators, air traffic control tower, access gates, parking toll booths, baggage belts, ticket counters, boarding gates, and all other airport-owned equipment is fully operational 24/7.

  • Use varied technology to provide daily wildlife management on airport property.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

    What are the minimum requirements?

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

  • Two years of related experience at a Part 139 certificated airport OR a bachelor's degree in aviation-related field and 1 year of experience at a Pat 139 certificated airport. May substitute 1 year of experience at a Part 139 certificated airport with certified flight instruction program (pilot license) completion and 1 year of airport experience.

  • Maintenance and heavy equipment experience.

  • Department of Homeland Security background check.

  • A valid, lawful Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

  • Airport Security Coordinator certificate and Airport Inspector and Airport Wildlife Hazard Management on-the-job training completion required within one month of hire.

  • Must obtain and hold an Airport SIDA Badge and FAA-accredited Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) certification during employment.

  • Must obtain 1 or more of ASOS, ACE, or CM ratings from American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE)

What is the selection process?

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on January 8, 2024. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
