Brown University Director of Equity Compliance Education in Providence, Rhode Island
Job Description:
The Director of Equity Compliance Education will bring both a deep understanding of Title VI, Title VII, Title IX and ADA/504 compliance legal requirements and practice especially in a Higher Education context. This position will lead and ensure required and recommended educational and training efforts of the University are offered. The Director will develop, administer and manage training opportunities for employees (faculty and staff) and students. The Director will develop and deliver current, legally compliant and best practice education and training to University faculty, staff and students in areas involving harassment and discrimination (Title VI and VII), gender-based harassment, discrimination and sexual misconduct (Title IX) and disability harassment and discrimination (ADA/504). Education and training is delivered to constituencies in different mediums (in-person, online, and hybrid), and the Director has expertise and experience with best practices and resources. The Director provides leadership by coordinating and collaborating closely with and, as needed, serving as a content expert and lead advisor to University partners to develop and deliver education and training including, but not limited to the Office of General Counsel, University Human Resources, Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, the Office of the Provost, and Division of Campus Life. This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity, Accessibility and Compliance.
The education and training developed and provided by the Director must be legally compliant, equitable, and reflect current policies, processes, practices and resources of Brown as an equitable and inclusive community where all members can thrive professionally and or educationally. The maintenance of strong partnerships with Campus Life departments and centers (such as BWell Health Promotion, Student Support Services, Residential Life, Student Conduct and Community Standards and others) as well as other University partners is a critical and consistent priority. The Director serves as a subject matter expert and educational leader in these compliance and reporting fields and consults with University academic and administrative units to help determine their educational needs, employing a proactive and reactive approach including the identification of external expertise as needed.
Job Qualifications
Master’s degree in a relevant field and 5 years of relevant experience (e.g., higher education, compliance) required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated ability to function positively in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong commitment to supporting the University's goal of cultivating a diverse and inclusive community.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively and professionally across a variety of constituencies.
Demonstrated experience in delivering engaging presentations to large audiences virtually and in-person.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication skills including the ability to present complex legal information in an accessible way to non-legal participants.
Demonstrated experience in developing outcome-based training and programs and strong understanding of assessing learning outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize well under time pressure.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Demonstrated ability to use technology to effectively reach target audiences.
Familiarity with Microsoft and Google Suite applications.
