Educational Testing Service Associate Psychometrician in Princeton, New Jersey

POSITION SUMMARY

The Associate Psychometrician works under general direction to direct, perform statistical analysis required for score reporting and interpretation of testing program results. This role contributes to the development of score interpretation materials and testing program publications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under general direction, perform statistical analysis required for score reporting and interpretation of testing program results. Work independently on significant aspects of statistical analysis work; may require instruction and guidance in other aspects.

  • Help plan, coordinate, and conduct the statistical work required for score reporting and data interpretation for basic programs and/or segments of complex programs.

  • Draft statistical and research plans and review results for reasonableness and accuracy.

  • Identify program-, research- and measurement-related problems and opportunities and their psychometric implications with senior staff.

  • Contribute to discussions of the potential effects of changes in programs; recommend long-range goals and plans for programs.

  • Contribute to designing, developing, and documenting technical and operating procedures and statistical guidelines for assigned programs.

  • Prepare statistical reports for testing programs.

  • Accountable for basic equating decisions.

  • Participate in planning, testing, and implementing GENASYS; participate in relevant aspects of the test creation process, such as item evaluation.

  • May design, program, document, and implement small- to medium-sized special purpose statistical and reporting systems.

  • Propose, design, execute, and report on small and medium research projects

  • Contribute to seminars on psychometric issues for staff, test committees, clients, and policy boards.

  • Suggest process, product, and service improvements; areas for cost reduction; and ways to meet business goals.

  • Make professional contributions through presentations, research reports, and participation in professional organizations.

  • Proactively work toward shorter cycle time, reduced costs, greater customer satisfaction, and quality maintenance.

  • May participate on a test creation team.

Criticality

  • The Associate Psychometrician role entails minimal to levels of risk, responsibility and accountability.

  • Failure in this role may delay departmental and organizational goals.

  • This is an important role for the design of statistical and reporting systems required for score reporting and testing programs.

Complexity

  • The Associate Psychometrician role requires a moderate level of reasoning and analytical proficiency and is difficult. Most psychometric methodology and research is ambiguous.

  • The incumbent contributes to the creation of processes and procedures and may mentor staff on appropriate implementation.

  • Stakeholders include staff members, test committees, clients, and policy boards.

Interdependence

Staff members depend on the Associate Psychometrician for contribution to statistical analysis functions required for score

reporting and interpretation of testing program results (upstream)

Education, Certifications, or Special Licenses:

  • Doctoral Degree (or A.B.D. but must anticipate receiving doctorate within 6 months of hire) in Educational Measurement, Quantitative Psychology, statistics or a closely related field is required.

  • One year if experience in educational measurement, quantitative psychology, or (applied) statistics or teaching is required. Experience may be gained through doctoral studies.

  • Experience or education must include utilizing psychometric methods, statistical procedures and their applications, application of classical test theory and item response theory and use of SAS SPSS statistical compter packages
