Purpose:The Credit/Collections Specialist performs office-based duties related to the timely

submission of technical or professional medical claims to insurance companies. Demonstrates the

highest quality customer service in keeping with the agency mission.

**

*Essential Responsibilities: *

  • Maintain A/R and follow up of all accounts with the exception of Medicare.*

  • Review of cash deposits for proper payments.

  • Claim research for appeal process with Insurance companies.

  • Patient benefit eligibility checks.

  • Follow through with all disciplines regarding on going Authorizations as needed.

  • Maintain computerized documentation of Authorizations and updates as needed.

  • Determination of claims to be sent to Collection Agency(s).

  • Follow up and communication with Collection Agency(s) regarding payments.

  • Medicaid billing, including printing mailing, transmission and follow up of claims for the Licensed and Certified Agencies.

  • Rebilling of claims, computerized or manual.

  • Ensures compliance with all payers billing policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Communicates with Intake Department to ensure proper set up of Patient Accounts.

  • Prepares Accounts Receivable reports on a monthly basis.

  • Cross train team members effectively through routine sharing of relevant information.

  • Maintain and Model REACH Values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor).

  • Demonstrates regular, dependable, and predictable attendance.

  • Performs other duties as required.

*Education and Experience Requirements: *

  • Must possess high school education or equivalent, associate degree in business or

Accounting preferred.

  • At least one (1) year of Billing/Collection experience preferably in a healthcare setting.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines including HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements and systems.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft Excel, Word or equivalent.

  • Ability to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of all medical, payroll, billing.

  • Strong organizational skills, with accurate attention to detail and ability to multitask.

  • Effective communication abilities for phone contacts with internal and external payers to resolve issues.

  • Customer service skills for interacting with patients regarding medical claims and payments to resolve issues.

  • Problem-solving skills to research and resolve discrepancies, denials, appeals, collections. A calm manner and patience working with either patients or insurers during this process.

  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.

  • Maintaining patient confidentiality as per the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).

  • Strong computer skills
