Job Title: Functional Test Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Functional Test Engineer with experience in the automotive industry to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of diesel engine combustion, aftertreatment, transmission, and control systems. This role involves data logging, system performance validation, and troubleshooting, along with the ability to communicate effectively within a Union environment.

Responsibilities

• Data logging and analysis of system configuration and performance validation requirements for engine systems of On-Highway trucks.

• Troubleshoot system-level performance failures, perform root cause failure analysis, and identify areas for system performance improvements.

• Leverage data analysis tools, diagnostics, and calibration data using Vector Products (CANape).

• Generate performance graphs and histograms, identify data abnormalities, and review validation results to write daily reports and maintain technical documentation.

• Provide clear directions to achieve test objectives and submit work orders.

• Communicate directions and work within a Union environment.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Automotive, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or Controls Engineering.

• Knowledge of diesel engine and aftertreatment operation and emissions.

• Strong fundamentals in engineering thermodynamics.

• Ability to communicate and maintain professional and social interaction in a multi-cultural environment.

• Self-driven and capable of identifying and connecting with other engineers to develop technical competencies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2+ years preferred experience with engine development.

• Experience in a Union shop environment is highly desired.

• Engine dynamometer testing experience in diesel, combustion, or battery.

• Proficient with Microsoft Tools.

• Preferred experience with Vector CANape & CANalyzer, INCA, and MATLAB.

• Experience with chassis and/or towable chassis dyno.

• Ability to travel 40% of the year for remote testing.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position with travel required for vehicle testing. The testing season spans 6-18 weeks during the summer and winter, with travel expectations of being out for two weeks on the road, followed by two weeks back. The role requires 40% travel, with 400-800 hours of overtime per year, mainly during the testing season. Overtime is paid at the normal hourly rate. The candidate should be proficient in installing instrumentation, troubleshooting electrical architecture, and experience with software and calibration flashing. Clear communication and the ability to work autonomously are essential.
