Fire Protection Technician

Location: Rose City Operations

Pay: $62.48/hr

Hours: Day shift

Job Description

It is recognized that the Company is engaged in a public service requiring continuous operation, and it is agreed that recognition of such an obligation of continuous service is imposed upon both the Company and the Union.

DUTIES: (Essential Job Responsibilities)

• Work safely

• You will be required to serve as a team member in the performance of precision maintenance, testing and repairs to PGE’s fire protection equipment, including many different types of Fire Suppression systems.

• Learn and apply the applicable requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as they relate to fire protection equipment and systems, and meet the requirements established by the Uniform Fire Code (UFC), the Uniform Building Code (UBC), the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), and Factory Mutual (FM Global.

• Work within close tolerances of electrical control circuits.

• Work from prints, schematics, O&M Manuals, and detailed instructions.

• Provide Fire Training to company employees, in conjunction with the Training Dept.

• Work out of town at Company locations and drive considerable distances, which can include overnight stays.

• Maintain accurate and complete daily work reports and maintenance records.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge/Skills/Experience Required)

• Must possess a State of Oregon Electrical License in any of the following types: (LEA, LME, PJ, PS, J, S).

• Obtain all certificates necessary within 6 months to perform maintenance within all regional fire departments where PGE property and fire equipment is maintained, including 3 certificates for the City of Portland’s Fire Marshall: (1 each - for testing Sprinkler/Standpipe, 1 each - for testing Fixed Fire Protection Systems, and 1 each - for Fire Extinguisher Service Work), to include NICET and NAFED as required by State Fire Codes.

• Must possess and maintain a valid CDL driver’s license with a Hazmat Endorsement.

• Must be PC knowledgeable.

• Physically capable of handling work assignments that require heavy lifting and working in uncomfortable environments, including inclement temperature/weather conditions.

• Pre-placement medical examination and physical capacity testing are required.

The position for which you are applying is covered under the Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations as defined in 49 CFR Part 40 and 49 CFR Parts 380, 390 and 391 which became effective on October 29, 2004. If you have been employed by PGE for less than 3 years, once you submit your Bid, you will receive a Supplemental Application form. The information you provide on the form related to the names and addresses of your previous employers during the preceding 3 years, dates of employment, reasons for leaving employment, whether you were subject to FMCSA while employed, whether your job was designated as a safety sensitive function in any DOT mode, may be used and your previous employers may be contacted.

During the probationary period following reassignment to any job, at least two progress reports will be completed. These reports will be discussed with the employee by his/her immediate supervisor, and copies of each will be given to him/her.

Salary Range:

$62.48 - $62.48

Starting pay is listed in the job posting above. Salary range determined by the current collective bargaining agreement and may include step increases based on time in the position.
