Sue Sumrell is recruiting for a Controller to join an iconic Portland area client. The primary function of this role is to oversee all accounting functions, including month-end and year-end financial closing processes, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and general ledger activities. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of financial accounting principles, practices, and standards, as well as proficiency in accounting software systems and ERP solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee the month-end and year-end financial closing processes, ensuring timely completion and accuracy

• Direct all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and general ledger activities

• Manage adherence to ASC 606 revenue recognition standards for complex multiple-year contracts and ASC 842 lease accounting standards

• Lead and coordinate year-end audits with external Audit and Tax firms

• Oversee payroll processing in coordination with HR and tax planning and compliance activities, ensuring adherence to all tax laws and regulations

• Lead the accounting internal control environment and oversee bank audits and appraisals

• Direct the preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, and maintenance of monthly workpapers

• Oversee the preparation of monthly financial statements and provide financial analysis and interpretation to senior management

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize business processes and drive operational efficiencies

• Mentor and develop accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and support to foster professional growth

• Stay current with industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes, implementing best practices, and recommending process improvements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a Controller role and demonstrated experience managing a team

• Proficiency in Accounting Software Systems and ERP Solutions

• Comprehensive understanding of Accounting Functions

• Experience with Auditing and Controllership Functions

• Familiarity with ASC 606 and ASC 842 standards

• Knowledge of US GAAP is essential

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification required

• Ability to strategize and problem-solve effectively

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage a team effectively

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• High level of professionalism and ethical conduct

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
