Job Title: Buyer
Job Description
Buyers are responsible for ensuring the quality, quantity, and margins for scrap material purchased from industrial and dealer accounts. This role involves researching business growth within the service area to identify potential new customers, consistently calling on new dealer and industrial accounts, and writing and presenting proposals to customers.
Responsibilities
Meet quantity volume and margin requirements established by management.
Provide detailed daily activity reports that include customer contacts, follow-up plans, and upcoming activities.
Track account activity, service adequacy, and pricing to maintain customer loyalty.
Ensure all boxes and products are accounted for with your customers.
Address customer service issues courteously and expeditiously.
Identify opportunities to increase business with existing customers.
Display excellent communication skills, including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
Maintain an energetic, knowledgeable, and outgoing demeanor when interacting with customers.
Wear appropriate professional attire and ensure your vehicle is clean when visiting customers.
Negotiate fairly and effectively, fully documenting all agreements and confirming them with customers.
Confirm pricing and service arrangements with management when necessary.
Essential Skills
Experience in purchasing and buying, especially in the metals industry.
Proficiency in supply chain management and procurement.
Familiarity with ERP systems.
Excellent communication skills, including presentation and negotiation.
Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Industrial experience is beneficial.
Six months to one year of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
An Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is preferred.
Sales experience is a plus.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $70000.00
