WSP USA Associate Consultant, Transportation Planning in Portland, Oregon

This Opportunity

Our Transportation Planning group in Portland, Oregon, is looking for a full-time Associate Transportation Planner to support and grow our diverse range of transportation planning services. We work on projects of all scales, from small-town multi-modal corridor enhancements to some of the most complex large-scale highway and bridge improvements. Project work for the selected candidate could include complete streets planning and design, road user safety projects, high-capacity transit planning, new mobility strategies, and major highway modernization.

The Associate Transportation Planner will provide a broad skills to support these varied projects. Tasks may include writing reports and memorandums, analyzing data in GIS/and/or excel, taking notes and tracking action items, and supporting the creation of visuals. Depending on the skillset, this position may provide support for multi-modal planning projects; transportation alternatives analysis; statewide, regional and local plans; and public involvement and communications or government relations, including committee coordination.

The ideal candidate will be flexible to support tasks in a highly collaborative, dynamic environment to produce high quality deliverables. Candidates are not expected to conduct all of the listed tasks within this job description, and will be encouraged to pursue pathways in alignment with career aspirations, project needs, and candidate skillset. The Associate Transportation Planner will navigate and grow into a role that leverages and enhances their skills while allowing for immense professional growth and team collaboration. We offer a hybrid work model with three days in our office and up to two days working from home or another location of your choice each week.

Your Impact

  • Collaborate with a team across departments (planning, communications, traffic, environmental, engineering) to deliver outstanding work products and strategies for client projects.

  • Assist with preparing plans and policy language, with a particular emphasis on transportation and multi-modal travel.

  • Prepare drafts of technical memos and reports, meeting minutes, transmittals, presentations, and other written materials summarizing research with findings and conclusions.

  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret data using tables, charts, reports, or infographics.

  • Conduct and/or support public involvement activities, including developing and implementing meeting work plans, meeting logistics, creating presentation materials or graphics, and staffing public and internal public agency meetings.

  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for written products, calculations, measurements, patterns and trends, statistical analysis, and reporting.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Planning, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, or a related field; AND one (1) to three (3) years of experience working in the transportation and/or urban planning field.

  • Any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the essential job functions.

  • Familiarity with the transportation project development cycle, from planning to funding to implementation.

  • Strong organization skills for managing competing priorities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to efficiently prioritize and complete tasks.

  • Proficiency in time management and communication is crucial to ensure all projects are completed accurately and on time.

  • Analytical skills and experience with research techniques or performance metrics related to transportation.

  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro, including analytical and cartographic design toolkits.

  • Interpersonal and communication skills, expressing ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet project objectives.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may occasionally extend beyond the typical work day or week.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AICP certification.

  • A member of and/or active participation in professional practice organizations such as APA, WTS, NAEP, APTA, ABPB, IBTTA or other related organizations.

  • Experience working for or with public agencies involved in transportation and mobility.

  • Post Graduate Education (Graduate Level courses, professional certification courses, Masters, PhD) or comparable work experience in transportation or land use planning.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $57,400 - $94,710

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
