Summary This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1867000 and is part of the Oregon Air National Guard 142d Wing, National Guard. Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT SURVIVAL FLIGHT EQUIPMENT REPAIRER (TITLE 32), WG-4818-10, this position provides diagnostic, analytical, calibration, investigative research, troubleshooting, in-depth inspections, quality control inspections, certification, testing, evaluation, and maintenance or overhaul of all Aircrew Flight Equipment and aircrew chemical defense equipment. Provides formal academic classroom and technical instruction to all pilots/aircrew on all initial and continuation instruction to ensure aircrew survival ability under peacetime or combat operations. Responds and participates as an Air Force aircraft mishap board representative in investigating flight support equipment failures/malfunctions associated with mishaps. (1) Ensures all aircrew flight equipment meets strict airworthiness criteria and that it will sustain combat operations/readiness by inspecting, testing, calibrating, certifying, diagnostic evaluating, troubleshooting, repairing/replacing, assembling and disassembling all Aircrew Flight Equipment, aircrew chemical/biological defense equipment, and aircraft ejection/non-ejection systems. (a) Aircrew Flight Equipment includes the following items: Specialized Flying Helmets with sophisticated Helmet-Mounted devices; Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System; multiple Laser Eye Protection Systems; Night Vision Goggles; Night Vision evasion scopes; Survival Kit/Vest; electronic signaling devices; SARSAT/SATCOM communication transceivers; Quick Draw electronic surveillance and interrogation equipment; Base Station-2 SARSAT/SATCOM CSAR chart plotter; Personnel Locator Beacons; Global Positioning Systems; Infrared Signaling Devices; Rescue Strobe Lights; Pyrotechnics; Combined Advanced Technology Enhanced Design "G" Ensemble (COMBAT EDGE) system; Multiple Oxygen Mask Systems; and multiple Life Sustaining Flotation Systems (Life Rafts/Life Preservers). (b) Utilizes a variety of complex state of the art diagnostic testers/systems/specialty tools. (c) Performs assembly, disassembly, and inspection serviceability of Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System, Helmet Mounted Display Units, Night Vision Goggles, Panoramic Night Vision Goggles, Electro-Optical Systems, and Recovery Survival Radios. (d) Conducts in-depth and quality control inspections to diagnose the nature and extent of equipment malfunction and to determine whether equipment may be economically repaired or declared unserviceable. (e) Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. (f) Performs inspections and recharges compressed oxygen and CO2 cylinders in excess of 1800 pounds per square inch. Exposed to extremely high level of noise when performing maintenance on oxygen and CO2 cylinders. (g) Performs required inspections and repair on all parachutes, survival equipment, flotation equipment, fabric leather, and rubber and aircrew personal flying equipment as prescribed in appropriate technical publications. (h) Cleans, repairs, and packs complicated multiple personnel, cargo and deceleration parachutes. (i) Operates, repairs and maintains sewing machines, punch presses and other related equipment. (j) Performs technical order compliance and modifications on parachutes. (2) Conducts formal academic classroom and technical instruction for all pilots, aircrew, passengers (aircraft maintenance personnel, dignitaries, civilian search and rescue agencies, etc.). This training is provided in preparation for initial and recurring sorties for all aircrew. Certifies initial and continuation training of aircrew and other personnel. Assists Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) field instructors for pilot/aircrew members for all survival training. (3) Utilizes, maintains, and updates multiple computer main frame programs/data bases to analyze, troubleshoot, schedule, and maintain inspection and accountability reports/documentation on all aircrew/aircraft life support and aircrew chemical-biological defense equipment. (4) Manages, monitors, and conducts inventories of all Aircrew Flight Equipment munitions/ammunition assets, forecasts time change requirements, removes and installs all munitions, and transports via Military/Commercial Aircraft and/or vehicles. (5) Maintains certification and remains proficient in handling, shipping, storing, and ordering multiple hazardous materials. (6) Manages a comprehensive Aircrew Flight Equipment mobility package required to sustain bare base operations under surge type conditions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Areas of Consideration: Area 1 - Current permanent and indefinite T32 technicians of the Oregon ANG. Area 2 - Current permanent and indefinite T5 employees of the Oregon ANG. Area 3 - Current service members in the Oregon ANG. Area 4 - Individuals in the active duty US Air Force, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard. Area 5 - US Citizens eligible to meet the military requirements for membership in the Oregon ANG. GENERAL and SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Work involved in the inspection, maintenance and adjustment of aircrew life support equipment. Workers are required to maintain appropriate accountability documentation of life support equipment. Work also involves continuation training to aircrews in the use of aircrew life support equipment. Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment). Ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals. Must have at least 18 months experience or training which has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment. Experience reading and interpreting military manuals. Experience in supply procedures and property accountability. Experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups. Experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program is essential.
