Summary:

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of their license, certification, registration, and/or assessed competencies. The incumbent must be a graduate of a 2-year associate degree or a 4-year Baccalaureate Degree National Board for Respiratory Care (NRBC) approved Respiratory Therapy Program. Bachelor’s degree preferred. The RRT must have current BLS certification with ACLS, PALS, and NRP preferred. The RRT must hold current Maine State professional license and meet the current license eligibility requirements of the NBRC. The incumbent must possess good clinical, communication and interpersonal skills. The RRT must be able to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team as well as independently. The RRT must possess good technical aptitude to understand and operate highly complex medical equipment. The RRT performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job.

Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical ventilator initiation and management.

  • Insertion and/or care of artificial airways.

  • Patient assessment, medication administration and recommendation for therapy, interpretation of clinical data.

  • Airway clearance and bronchoscopy assist as appropriate.

  • Participation in the Rapid Response Team, Code Team, Trauma Team, and Sepsis Team as applicable by member.

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds in critical care areas and participate in education of students/other staff.

  • Protect patients or staff members using safety equipment.

  • Maintains a safe environment complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures; reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.

  • Other Duties.

Other Information:

  • Maine State professional license and meet the current license eligibility requirements of the NBRC.

  • BLS certification to be obtained prior to independently caring for patients and kept current.

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist credential.

Working Conditions
